What is dental floss? The whats , hows and whys explained
What is dental floss? Dental floss is a special tool, a thin thread generally made of plastic or nylon which is placed between the teeth and pulled to clean the gaps between the teeth. As the thread is pulled, it removes food particles and other debris which may have got stuck between teeth.
Thread or ribbons Dental floss is available at most supermarkets and pharmacies and comes in the form of plastic or nylon thread or ribbons. Ribbons are preferred by those who find flossing uncomfortable as they are softer. Ribbon floss is recommended for those whose gums may ache or bleed during flossing. Thread floss Ribbon floss
Automatic flossers Automatic flossers suit those who find it difficult to perfect their flossing techniques. When turned on and brought into contact with one’s teeth, it would use a nylon filament to clean the spaces between teeth.
Without flossing… If left in their nooks and crevices, food particles can rot, resulting in plaque and bacterial build-up as well as unsightly looking teeth. It could lead to tooth decay and cavities, bad breath and gum disease.
