What is paralanguage?

Definition What you do with your voice and the way you say your words is called paralanguage. There are 10 kinds of paralanguage .

What is Verbal Communication ? Verbal communication is the use of sounds and words to express yourself, especially in contrast to using gestures or mannerisms. Verbal communication consists of speaking, listening, writing and reading.

Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages of Verbal Communication More personal and informal/formal. Makes immediate impact. Provides opportunity for interaction and feedback. Helps us correct our messages according to the feedback and non-verbal cues from the listener It is very fast and non-expensive .

Disadvantages of Verbal Communication A word once uttered can’t be taken back. Impact may be short lived. It can be forgotten easily. There is no legal evidence of oral communication .

Difference between Nonverbal, Verbal and Para Language Tone of voice, volume, and pitch are all ways to effectively communicate verbally. Nonverbal communication includes gestures, facial expressions, body movement, timing, touch, and anything else done without speaking. People seem to notice nonverbal communication more than verbal. Paralanguage refers to non-lexical components of speech such as pitch, tone, intonation, volume, pauses, etc .
