DEFINITION OF WHIPLASH “Whiplash is a common injury to the neck that occurs when it experiences a sudden forward and backward movement. When this happens, the soft tissues (i.e. the muscles and ligaments of the neck) are extended beyond their normal or natural range of motion.”

EXAMPLES - Whiplash injury may be sustained in several different ways:

STATISTICS It has been estimated that as many as 2 million people per year suffer from some form of whiplash in the United States. According to National Health Service (UK), in approximately 60 percent of cases, symptoms clear up completely within 1-4 weeks.

STATISTICS The longest-running study ever done on whiplash patients looked at the overall health of whiplash patients almost 20 years after their automobile accident. More than 50 percent of those patients still deal with chronic pain . Approximately 15 to 40 percent of those injured in automobile accidents will struggle with chronic pain for the rest of their life.
