Introduction Scientific name: Triticum Origin: southwestern Asia Wheat is a cereal grain, now cultivated worldwide. Wheat varieties in Pakistan include Mexipak-65, NARC-2011, AARI-2011, Wafaq-01.

Wheat is a Rabi crop that is grown in the winter season. Sowing takes place in October to December. Harvesting done during the months of February and May. 

Wheat grain is highly palatable. A major staple food that provides about 20% of food energy and protein worldwide. Mainly grown for use in human food production. Also used in poultry diets.
