William Shakespeare The best writer and poet in English.

Early Life Born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England. Parents: John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. Went to King’s New School.

Career Beginnings Moved to London in late 1580s. Started as an actor and writer. First plays: 'Henry VI' and 'Titus Andronicus'.

Major Works Famous plays: 'Romeo and Juliet', 'Hamlet', 'Macbeth', 'Othello', 'King Lear'. Types: Tragedy, Comedy, History.

Poetry Wrote poems: 'Venus and Adonis' (1593) and 'The Rape of Lucrece' (1594). Wrote 154 sonnets about love, beauty, and time.

The Globe Theatre Helped own The Globe Theatre. Many plays were shown there. It became a famous place in London.

Later Years and Death Retired to Stratford in 1613. Died on April 23, 1616. Buried in Holy Trinity Church, Stratford.

Legacy Known as the best English writer. His plays are still read and acted today. Added over 1,700 new words to English.
