Wi-Fi Networking Concepts:Understaning Wireless Connectivity

What is Wi-Fi? Wi-Fi stands for Wireless Fidelity. It enables wireless communication between devices using radio waves.

How does Wi-Fi work? 1. Wireless Access Points (WAPs): A wireless access point acts as a central hub for Wi-Fi communication. It connects to wired network, such as a modem or router, and serves as a bridge between the wired network and wireless devices 2.Radio Waves and Frequencies: Wi-Fi communication relies on radio waves, which are a form of electromagnetic radiation Wi-Fi operates in two primary frequency bands: 2.4 GHz and 5GHz These frequency bands are divided into multiple channels to avoid interference and congestion.

3. Signal Transmission: When a Wi-Fi enabled device, such as a smartphone or laptop, wants to connect to a Wi-FI network, it sends a request to the nearest available access point. The access point receives the request and respond by establishing a connection. 4. SSIDs and Authentication: Each Wi-Fi network is identified by a Service Set Identifier (SSID). When connecting to a i -Fi network, devices scan for nearby access points broadcasting the SSID of the desired network. The user selects a network and, if required, provides the necessary credentials for authentication (e.g., a password).

5. Data Transfer: Once the device is connected to the Wi-Fi network, data can be transmitted wirelessly. Devices exchange data packets using the radio waves within the selected Wi-Fi channel. The access point acts as a central coordinator, managing the flow of data between the connected devices and the wired network. 6 . Encryption and Security: To ensure secure communication, Wi-Fi networks employ encryption protocols such as WEP, WPA and WPA2. These protocols scramble the data packets during transmission and can only be decrypted by devices that possess the correct encryption key.

Internet Access: The router connected to the internet allows Wi-Fi devices to access online resources. It acts as a gateway, routing data between the local network and the internet.

Evolution of Wi-Fi Wi-Fi technology has evolved over the years, with new standards offering faster speeds, improved security, and better performance
