Contents of the Synopsis Introduction Literature review Research Statement Research Gaps Research Objectives Research Mythology Hypothesis Findings Suggestions Bibliography Publication Details

Introduction This study explores the strategies used by female faculty members in commerce colleges of Pune to achieve work-life balance and the challenges they face.

Literature Review Challenges Faced by Female FacultyHochschild and Machung (2012) discussed the "second shift" phenomenon, where women, despite working full-time jobs, still handle the majority of household responsibilities. This dual burden creates significant challenges for achieving work-life balance.Lingard and Francis (2006) examined the role of supportive work environments in moderating the relationship between work-family conflict and burnout. Their findings emphasized that lack of institutional support exacerbates the challenges faced by female faculty.4. Strategies for Achieving Work-Life BalanceAryee , Srinivas , and Tan (2005) highlighted effective time management and delegation as crucial strategies for balancing work and family responsibilities. Their research emphasized the importance of prioritizing tasks and seeking support from colleagues and family members.Manfredi and Doherty (2006) identified best practices from top companies in achieving work-life balance. They found that companies with strong support systems, flexible work hours, and wellness programs had higher levels of employee satisfaction and retention.5. Institutional and Societal InfluencesLewis , Gambles, and Rapoport (2007) argued that work-life balance approaches must consider broader societal and cultural contexts. Their research showed that societal expectations and gender roles significantly impact women's ability to balance work and personal life.Sharma and Mishra (2014) investigated women’s perceptions of organizational support in achieving work-life balance. They found that perceived support from employers plays a critical role in how women manage their dual roles.6. Regional and Context-Specific StudiesPillay and Bhagwan (2020) focused on academic staff in South African higher education institutions, revealing unique regional challenges and strategies. Their findings underscored the importance of context-specific research to address local needs and constraints.Wheatley (2012) examined dual-career households and the impact of travel-to-work on work-life balance. His research highlighted the unique challenges faced by dual-career couples and the need for tailored solutions.7. Longitudinal and Comparative StudiesVoydanoff (2004) conducted longitudinal studies on the effects of work demands and resources on work-to-family conflict. Her research provided valuable insights into how these dynamics evolve over time and their long-term impact on employees.Rapoport et al. (2002) compared work-life balance strategies across different types of organizations, identifying key differences and similarities. Their comparative approach offered a nuanced understanding of how various institutional contexts influence work-life balance.
