Background The world health organization was established on 7 A pril 1978. It a specialized agency of the United Nations. Its headquarter is situated in Geneva, Switzerland. The director general is Tedros Adhanom .
Introduction The World Health Organization(WHO) is a specialized agency of the united nations that is concerned with international public health. It is responsible for providing leadership on global health matters.
Vision “ A world in which everyone can live healthy , productive lives”
Mission “To lead strategic collaborative efforts among member states and other partners to promote equity in health, to combat disease, and to improve the quality of, and lengthen, the lives of the all people of the world”
Objectives Currently the main objective of WHO is HEALTH FOR ALL through PHC The attainment by all peoples of the highest level of health. Achievement of high standard health which differently on the basis of caste religion. Politics and social status is the fundamental rights of each individual.
Activities Prevention and control of specific disease: Immunization against common disease of childhood is a priority program of WHO. Global eradication of small pox is an outstanding example of International health co-operation. Epidemiology surveillance of communicable disease.

2. Development of comprehensive health services: Promote and support the national health policy development and the development of comprehensive national health programs. Appropriate technology for health (ATH) is another new program lunched by the WHO to encourage the self sufficiency in solving health problems.
3. Family Health: It is one of he major programs activities of the WHO since 1970. Broadly subdivides into maternal and child health care human reproduction nutritional and health education. Chief concern is improvement of the quality of life of the family as a unit.
4. Environmental Health I advice government on national programs for the provision of basic sanitary services. Protection of he quality of air water and food health condition of work radiation protection and early identification of new hazards.
Roles and functions Biomedical research Co-operation with other organizations. It is the worlds directing and coordinating authority on international health aspects. Concentrates on morbidity and mortality statistics relating to health problems. It advices government of country regarding maintenance of environmental health.
