1 Healthy Food for Pakistanis and Increasing Exports To develop a common understanding of the challenges that exist in the food industry in Pakistan and to discuss the options that exists to promote healthy food and exports. OBJECTIVE

2 Driven by Passion We all left our professions and joined food industry to study the adulteration issues with perishable food items. During this noble journey our paths crossed in 2019 and we came up with a technological solution to the issue in hand. About Us Food Industry 7+ years of experience IT Industry 1 8 + years of experience

3 Where the world is headed to? Current issues with our food chain What is the Solution? BlockTrEx Features Pro o f of Concept Role out plan – Phase wise approach Costing Next Steps AGENDA

Our food systems are responsible for: 20-30% Global green house gas emissions 01 70% Fresh water withdrawals 02 70% Bio-diversity loss 03 -Nearly 800 million people are chronically undernourished -2 billion are micronutrient deficient. -Approximately 155 million children under the age of five suffer from stunted growth -2 billion people are overweight or obese 1/3 of global food production 1.3 billion tonnes of food – is lost along the supply chain or wasted by consumers and retailers 04

5 By 2050, global food systems will need to sustainably and nutritiously feed more than 9 billion people while providing economic opportunities in both rural and urban communities. Yet our food systems are falling far short of these goals We need to adopt emerging technology innovations that have the potential to drive rapid progress in the sustainability, inclusivity, efficiency and health impacts of food systems to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Learn More Where the world is headed to?

6 World Economic Forum Sustainable Development Goals In September 2015, the General Assembly adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ).The fundamental transformation of food systems will advance all of the Sustainable Development Goals New Vision for Agriculture (NVA) Defined by World Economic Forum partners in 2009. Engages over 650 organizations At country level, it has catalyzed multistakeholder partnerships in 21 countries Transformative Twelve “ Innovation with a Purpose ”, a project started in 2017. The result was a report presented in Devos 2018, highlighting twelve transformative technologies that could deliver significant impacts by 2030

Global impact of incorporating technology 30-50% of the consumers in Developed countries used food scanning to determine expiration dates by 2030. What If FOOD SENSING TECHNOLOGIES FOR FOOD SAFETY, QUALITY, AND TRACEABILITY 3-6% of the total agricultural production value Increased Income 5-7 % of total food wasted i.e., 10-20 million tonns Reduced Food Wastage

8 Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Emerging technologies driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution are disrupting many industries, bringing rapid and large-scale change. Until now, the food and agriculture sectors have been slow to harness the power of these technologies, attracting significantly lower levels of investment and inspiring fewer technology start-ups than other sectors Health Care Very high investment 18000 start-ups Food & Agriculture Very low investment 1000 start-ups

9 Transparency Current the system is unable to share information in a transparent, immutable and trust Digitization There is no end-to-end visibility and digitization of information that is indelible in the food system Trust Traceability of food to its origin to gain trust of end consumer Issues

10 Transparency Current the system is unable to share information in a transparent, immutable and trust Digitization There is no end-to-end visibility and digitization of information that is indelible in the food system Trust Traceability of food to its origin to gain trust of end consumer Issues

11 Traceability Improving the food industry’s data-sharing continuum by introducing traceability amongst every participant from the growing, harvesting, processing, packaging, transporting, holding, and selling product in the food ecosystem 30% Increase in exports As an agricultural company our share of food export is too less. We can increase it by 30-40% if we incorporate traceability in our foodchain. Traceability Everything will be traceable back to its origin Healthy Food Suitable for all categories business and personal Solution

BlockTrEx Healthy Traceable Food A solution built on the powerful blockchain technology, which will benefit all the stakeholders involved in the food supply chain creating a safer, smarter and more efficient food ecosystem.

13 What will we achieve Governance & Standardization Building an ecosystem Creating a business model that adds value for all parties Implementing a governance structure for securing data Ensuring interoperability and standardization of different platform integration Building the system on battle-tested enterprise technology i.e., BlockChain

14 Case Study (one of the many) Traceability implementation at AL SHAMS in Egypt Intro : Al Shams Agro Group was established in 1993 with a vision to be a pioneer in the Egyptian fresh produce industry Etrace : The Egyptian Traceability Centre for Agro-Industrial Exports ( Etrace ) is a joint project between the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI). Etrace is focused on improving the capability of Egyptian farmers, growers and pack houses along the food value chain to meet European and international food quality, safety and traceability standards GS1 Standards : The Global Traceability Standard is used to design the traceability system and determine data requirements at each traceability actor, like final consumer, supplier, Farms etc Benefits: Competitive Advantage. Compliance with EU traceability requirements and other international customer requirements. Automating all operational book keeping in the company like material control, stock taking, labour productivity reporting, production scheduling, inbound and out bound logistics data recording etc Improved Customer satisfaction through reducing number of complaints and the time needed to handle them by more than 75% Automation Compliance Productivity

BLOCKCHAIN THE TECHNOLOGY SET TO SHAKE UP THE LOGISTICS ECOSYSTEM

16 Steps: BlockChain Explained Someone starts a transaction by putting request to buy/sell. The request is sent to person-to-person network of computers (Known as nodes) Validation: Transaction sent to nodes is verified by people called “miners” who confirm everything using known algorithms. A verified transaction can include smart contracts, or other information on the open network. After verification, the transaction is added to a “block” of data with other transactions for the public ledger. The new block is added to the existing blockchain. Once there it cannot be changed or altered in anyway. The record is permanent. The transaction is complete.

Industrial Applications Supply Chain With blockchain , supply chain from manufacture to sale, the transactions can be documented in a permanent decentralized record reducing time delays, added costs, and human errors. 01 Fishing Fishing is also one of the largest industries in the world using forced labor. Blockchain -based systems could help make the industry more sustainable, eco-friendly, and legally compliant. 02 Pharma Blockchain can also enforce safer drug production. If errors are made, they can be caught and traced to the source . This helps prevent recalls 03 Electronic Voting Blockchain tools could serve as a foundational infrastructure for casting, tracking, and counting votes 04

40 The Fourth Industrial Revolution is transforming food systems under our eyes. But we cannot take its benefits for granted, especially in developing countries where the value chain is dominated by smallholder farmers and small and medium food enterprises. Now is the time to look at emerging technologies and ask ourselves what we can do, on the policy and advocacy side, to make sure they are moving the world in the direction of inclusive and sustainable development. Quote Juergen Voegele Senior Director, Food and Agriculture Global Practice, The World Bank

41 Ensuring traceability is vital to providing transparency and building consumer trust in the content, quality and sustainability of the end-to-end food supply chain. New technologies, such as blockchain and satellite imaging, can strengthen traceability programmes and lead to better transparency and value across the supply chain. Quote Paul Bulcke Chairman of the Board, Nestlé, Switzerland
