Período de las Luces E l racionalismo del Período de las Luces o Aufklärung fue un factor crucial en la teología del siglo XVIII. Este movimiento se desarrolló en tres etapas: primero, defendiendo el credo ortodoxo mediante la razón; luego, distinguiendo entre la fe ortodoxa pública y las opiniones privadas; y finalmente, colocando la razón como juez supremo de toda doctrina cristiana. En esta última etapa, se abandonaron doctrinas fundamentales como la divinidad de Cristo y los milagros, reduciendo el cristianismo a las enseñanzas éticas de Jesús, despojadas de elementos considerados especulativos o metafísicos. Este enfoque llevó a una simplificación extrema del mensaje cristiano, perdiendo gran parte de su poder y majestad.
