motivation today

LEARNING OBJECTIVES Students are able to explain atomic radius Students are able to explain ionization energy Students are able to explain electron affinity Students are able to explain electronegativity

Atomic Radius Atomic radius is the distance from the center of the atom (atomic nucleus) to the outer electron shell occupied by electrons and shows the size of an atom. The length and shortness of the atomic radius is determined by 2 factors, namely: Number of electron shells Charge of the atomic nucleus

Ionization Energy This is the minimum energy required to remove one electron from a gaseous atom in its ground state.

Electron Affinity Electron affinity is the amount of energy produced or released when an atom attracts an electron.

NOMENCLATURE 4. Alkane naming order Methyl Methyl Branch number – Branch name – Main chain name Hexane 2,4-dimethylhexane -tri -tetra Electronegativity or electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract pairs of electrons that are used together to form bonds. Electronegativity

CONCLUSION Atomic radius is the distance from the center of the atom to the outermost electron shell. Ionization energy is the energy required for an atom in gaseous form to remove an outer electron to form a positive ion. Electron affinity is the amount of energy produced/released when an atom captures an electron. Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract shared pairs of electrons. Atomic radius is inversely proportional to the other 3 properties.
