What are zones? A zone is an area that has particular features or characteristics.The earth is divided into five distinct zones based on their climatic conditions.These are known as geographical zones.

zones of India India exhibits a great variation in topography,landscape, climate,soil types,geology,vegetation and demographic character from one part of the country to another.Indian climate also varies due to variation in altitude,temperature,rainfall and other parameters.The climatic characteristics range from continental to oceanic, from extreme hot to severe cold, from extremely wet to dry desert type.

Zones of India Based on the above discussed characteristics India is divided into five zones:- North South East West Central North East

NORTH ZONE North India is a loosely defined region consisting of the northern part of India.The dominant geographical features of north India are the Indus Gangetic plain and the Himalayas,which demarcate the region from the Tibetan Plateau and Central Asia.

South Zone Covering the southern part of the peninsular Deccan Plateau,South India is bounded by the bay of Bengal in the east,the Arabian Sea in the west and the Indian Ocean in the south.The geography of the region is diverse with two mountain ranges- The Western and Eastern Ghats.

EAST ZONE East India is a region of India consisting of the states of Bihar,Jharkhand,Odisha, WestBengal, Andaman and Nicobar islands . The region corresponds to historical region of Magadha from which it inherits its various Eastern Indo Aryan Languages.

WEST ZONE The West Zone of India includes the states of Goa, Maharashtra,Gujarat along with the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

CENTRAL ZONE The central zone consists of the states of Chattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.Being a plateau region it is rich in minerals and is also home to many wildlife sanctuaries,national parks and bioreserves.

NORTH- EAST ZONE The north east zone consists of the states of Arunachal Pradesh,Assam,Meghalya, Mizoram,Manipur,Nagaland and Tripura. These states are home to some magnificent terrains,exotic flora and fauna and diverse culture.

CONCLUSION India ia multifaceted country with huge regional span.It presents an excellent diversity of topography, natural features,cultures,traditions, people, languages,economic features etc. It includes 28 states and 8 union territories which are divided into the five zones of India.
