LUNGS ANATOMY

LUNGS FUNCTIONS Breathing : The lungs are the primary organs of respiration, bringing oxygen into the body and removing carbon dioxide. Filtering: The lungs filter out carbon dioxide, small blood clots, dust particles, and bacteria. Protecting: The lungs protect the body from harmful substances by secreting immunoglobulin A and using mucociliary clearance. Balancing pH: The lungs help balance the body's pH by expelling carbon dioxide when it rises. Shock absorbing: The lungs can act as a shock absorber for the heart. Clearing mucus: The lungs help clear mucus. Speech: The lungs enable speech.

Smell: The lungs help with the sense of smell. Blood reservoirs: The lungs act as blood reservoirs. Regulating blood pressure: The lungs help regulate blood pressure by being part of the renin-angiotensin complex.

SYMPTOMS OF LUNG Shortness of breath: You might feel like you can't get enough air, or you might have trouble breathing. Coughing: You might have a chronic cough, or you might cOugh up bloodor mucus. Chest pain or discomfort: You might feel pain or tightness in your chest when you breathe. Wheezing: You might experience wheezing. Fatigue: You might feel tired. Cyanosis: Your skin might have a blue tinge due to low OXygen levels.

Chest infections: You might be more likely to get chest infections, like pneumonia or the flu. Lung nodules: Lung nodules, also known as pulmonary nodules, can be an indicator of lung disease. Pain from advanced lung cancer: If lung cancer spreads, it can cause pain in your lungs or in other parts of your body, like your bones.

LUNG DISEASES Asthma: A common lung disease Asthma: A common lung disease Pneumonia: A lung infection Lung cancer: A lung disease Tuberculosis (TB): A lung infection Interstitial lung disease (|LD): A lung disease Cystic fibrosis: A lung disease

Emphysema: A lung disease Mesothelioma: A lung disease Pulmonary hypertension: A lung disease

MEDICAL TERM OF LUNGS The medical term for the lungs is " pulmo “ or " pulmonary ", derived from the Latin word pulmonarius , which refers to the lungs. This term is commonly used in various medical conditions and procedures related to the lungs, such as: Pulmonary function: Refers to how well the lungs are working. Pulmonary edema: Fluid accumulation in the lungs. Pulmonary embolism: A blockage in the pulmonary arteries. Pulmonary fibrosis: Scarring of lung tissue. Pulmonology: The branch of medicine focused on lung and respiratory conditions.

Pulmonologist: A medical doctor specializing in lung diseases. Another medical term is " pneumo ", derived from the Greek word pneumon for lungs or air. This is used in terms like: Pneumonia: Infection that inflames the air sacs in the lungs. Pneumothorax: A collapsed lung caused by air leakage into the space between the lung and chest wall. Pneumonectomy: Surgical removal of a lung. These terms help describe various aspects of lung-related health and medical conditions.
