IPD TOWER DAMPENS ALBERT HALL’S
GRANDEUR.....WHO IS RESPONSIBLE?
THENNOW
he under construc-
tion IPD tower has
started eclipsing the
world famous monu-
ment Albert hall and is casting a
shadow on the glorious heritage
of Jaipur. The ongoing con-
struction of this 17 storied build-
LQJHDUOLHULWZDVoRRUVKDV
actually changed the skyline of
Jaipur and it is feared that this
building will spoil the look of
Albert Hall construction of which
was completed in 1887 and was
designed by Sir Samuel Swin-
ton Jacob and will give a bad
picture to the tourists for whom
this perfect example of Indo-
Saracenic architecture is the
gateway for entering walled city.
The Pink City was included in
the list of World Heritage sites,
the city also received the UN-
(6&2FHUWLnFDWHDW$OEHUW+DOO
on February 6, 2020. Around
the world there are height
restrictions in place so that the
heritage sanctity of the monu-
ments is maintained. However
in the case of this building it is
clearly evident that the depart-
ments concerned chose to
keep their eyes closed. Neither
JDA which has the responsibil-
ity of planning development
of Jaipur nor the medical &
health department gave even
an iota of thought about how
this controversial construction
will have adverse impact on the
look of this architectural gem
of Jaipur. The department of
tourism and the department of
archeology should have been
WKHnUVWWRUDLVHWKHLUREMHFWLRQ
to this tower eclipsing Jaipur’s
heritage but they too chose to
remain mum. Architect Anoop
Bartaria had a free run but
was it not his responsibility to
make sure that the heritage is
preserved and protected from
unbridled construction of the
IPD tower? Jaipur seeks reply
from each of them.

BIKANER LOK SABHA SEAT
Will Meghwal and BJP repeat history again?
Soubhagya Sharma
Jaipur
s the impending
elections ap-
proach, political
scenario in Bi-
kaner Lok Sabha
constituency has again
taken centrestage. This
historically significant re-
gion, encompassing eight
Vidhan Sabha constituen-
cies, unveils a rich tapes-
try of political affiliations
and voter dynamics.
The current configura-
tion of Bikaner LS con-
stituency reveals a delicate
equilibrium between the
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) and the Indian Na-
tional Congress (INC).
Within the eight Vidhan
Sabha seats, the BJP com-
mands control over six,
while the INC retains a
foothold in two. This intri-
cate distribution under-
scores the diverse and dy-
namic political landscape
shaping the constituency.
Bikaner East, one of
the key Vidhan Sabha
seats, stands as a micro-
cosm of the constituency,
boasting a total of
2,22,255 voters. The de-
mographic breakdown,
with 1,14,388 male vot-
ers and 1,07,867 female
voters. BJP’s Siddhi Ku-
mari, who was also the
richest politician to con-
test elections last year in
Rajasthan, has been
dominating this seat
since 2008.
Bikaner ’s political his-
tory spans Maharaja Karni
Singh’s independent rep-
resentation to affiliations
with Janata Party, INC,
CPI(M), and now BJP. It
showcases the constituen-
cy’s adaptability to chang-
ing political landscapes.

Through the Window of History
Seventh Lok Sabha Election1980
Indira Gandhi
returned to power
with a huge majority
Manoj Mathur
Jaipur
n the general elec-
tions for the 7th
Lok Sabha held
from January 3 to
6, 1980, Indira Gandhi re-
turned to power with a bang
as she regained the public
support which she had lost
due to the Emergency three
years ago. After another
split in the party, Indira con-
tested this election with
Congress-I and its new
symbol ‘Hath’ (Hand).
Congress-I won 353 out of
529 seats. The vote share of
Indira’s party was 42.69
percent. After the separa-
tion of some parties, the
remaining Janata Party was
reduced to just 31 seats.
Chaudhary Charan Singh,
who resigned as PM due to
Congress’ withdrawal of
support, could win only 41
seats through his Janta Par-
ty (Secular). CPI won 11,
CPM 36 and independents
and others won 39 seats.
After a landslide victory,
Indira remained PM from
January 14, 1980 to Octo-
ber 31, 1984 when she was
shot dead by her body-
guards. After Indira, her son
Rajiv Gandhi became the
PM. Thus, the tenure of 7th
Lok Sabha witnessed Indi-
ra’s return to power and her
assassination. During this
tenure Indira’s younger son
and her right hand in poli-
tics, Sanjay Gandhi, died in
an air crash due to which
her elder son Rajiv entered
politics and was made par-
ty’s General Secretary.
In the 1980’s election,
Indira’s Congress (I) faced
formidable opponents, in-
cluding prominent leaders.
Despite political challeng-
es, internal Janata Party
strife, and national instabil-
ity, she secured her fourth
term as Prime Minister.

Jaipur
JP has set the
target of 400
seats in the
2024 Lok Sab-
ha elections. At
the same time, Opposi-
tion parties are focusing
on coalition politics to
stop the winning chariot
of Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi for the third
time. Only the election
results will tell whether
BJP’s goal is achieved or
whether the alliance of
Opposition parties suc-
ceeds in its plans. But if
we analyze the data of
BJP’s success in the two
elections under the lead-
ership of Narendra Modi,
then even if all the votes
of non-BJP candidates,
independent candidates
and NOTA were added
together, BJP would have
an upper hand on 224
seats in 2019 which is
only 48 seats less than
the majority figure. The
BJP had fielded candi-
dates on 437 seats in the
2019 Lok Sabha elec-
tions. This was the first
time that the party had
contested elections on so
many seats. Probably for
the first time, the BJP
fielded candidates on
more seats than its main
Opposition party Con-
gress and for the first
time, BJP’s victory figure
crossed three hundred.
It is true that every
election is different. Its
issues are also different.
Therefore, analysts be-
lieve that it is not right to
draw conclusions for
2024 on the basis of 2019
data, but the fact is also
that after 2014, the popu-
larity of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi is in-
creasing instead of de-
creasing. This can also be
seen in the data of 2014
and 2019 Lok Sabha elec-
tions. In 2014, BJP won
136 seats with 50 percent
more vote share, which
increased to 224 in 2019.
In 2019, there were
236 candidates whose
victory margin was more
than two lakhs votes.
Of the 236 candidates
who won by a margin of
more than two lakh votes
in 2019, 164 were from
the BJP. Of the 131 who
won by a margin of more
than three lakh votes, 105
were from the BJP. The
remaining 26 included 10
from Dravida Munnetra
Kazhagam (DMK), five
from the Congress and
the rest were other candi-
dates. Compared to 2014,
the number of seats with
a margin of more than
three lakh votes was 63.
Will BJP’s mission be completed in 2024 or will the coalition politics of Opposition parties succeed?

BIKANER LOK SABHA SEAT
Will Meghwal and BJP repeat history again?
Soubhagya Sharma
Jaipur
s the impending
elections ap-
proach, political
scenario in Bi-
kaner Lok Sabha
constituency has again
taken centrestage. This
historically significant re-
gion, encompassing eight
Vidhan Sabha constituen-
cies, unveils a rich tapes-
try of political affiliations
and voter dynamics.
The current configura-
tion of Bikaner LS con-
stituency reveals a delicate
equilibrium between the
Bharatiya Janata Party
(BJP) and the Indian Na-
tional Congress (INC).
Within the eight Vidhan
Sabha seats, the BJP com-
mands control over six,
while the INC retains a
foothold in two. This intri-
cate distribution under-
scores the diverse and dy-
namic political landscape
shaping the constituency.
Bikaner East, one of
the key Vidhan Sabha
seats, stands as a micro-
cosm of the constituency,
boasting a total of
2,22,255 voters. The de-
mographic breakdown,
with 1,14,388 male vot-
ers and 1,07,867 female
voters. BJP’s Siddhi Ku-
mari, who was also the
richest politician to con-
test elections last year in
Rajasthan, has been
dominating this seat
since 2008.
Bikaner’s political his-
tory spans Maharaja Karni
Singh’s independent rep-
resentation to affiliations
with Janata Party, INC,
CPI(M), and now BJP. It
showcases the constituen-
cy’s adaptability to chang-
ing political landscapes.

Through the Window of History
Seventh Lok Sabha Election1980
Indira Gandhi
returned to power
with a huge majority
Manoj Mathur
Jaipur
n the general elec-
tions for the 7th
Lok Sabha held
from January 3 to
6, 1980, Indira Gandhi re-
turned to power with a bang
as she regained the public
support which she had lost
due to the Emergency three
years ago. After another
split in the party, Indira con-
tested this election with
Congress-I and its new
symbol ‘Hath’ (Hand).
Congress-I won 353 out of
529 seats. The vote share of
Indira’s party was 42.69
percent. After the separa-
tion of some parties, the
remaining Janata Party was
reduced to just 31 seats.
Chaudhary Charan Singh,
who resigned as PM due to
Congress’ withdrawal of
support, could win only 41
seats through his Janta Par-
ty (Secular). CPI won 11,
CPM 36 and independents
and others won 39 seats.
After a landslide victory,
Indira remained PM from
January 14, 1980 to Octo-
ber 31, 1984 when she was
shot dead by her body-
guards. After Indira, her son
Rajiv Gandhi became the
PM. Thus, the tenure of 7th
Lok Sabha witnessed Indi-
ra’s return to power and her
assassination. During this
tenure Indira’s younger son
and her right hand in poli-
tics, Sanjay Gandhi, died in
an air crash due to which
her elder son Rajiv entered
politics and was made par-
ty’s General Secretary.
In the 1980’s election,
Indira’s Congress (I) faced
formidable opponents, in-
cluding prominent leaders.
Despite political challeng-
es, internal Janata Party
strife, and national instabil-
ity, she secured her fourth
term as Prime Minister.

Jaipur
JP has set the
target of 400
seats in the
2024 Lok Sab-
ha elections. At
the same time, Opposi-
tion parties are focusing
on coalition politics to
stop the winning chariot
of Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi for the third
time. Only the election
results will tell whether
BJP’s goal is achieved or
whether the alliance of
Opposition parties suc-
ceeds in its plans. But if
we analyze the data of
BJP’s success in the two
elections under the lead-
ership of Narendra Modi,
then even if all the votes
of non-BJP candidates,
independent candidates
and NOTA were added
together, BJP would have
an upper hand on 224
seats in 2019 which is
only 48 seats less than
the majority figure. The
BJP had fielded candi-
dates on 437 seats in the
2019 Lok Sabha elec-
tions. This was the first
time that the party had
contested elections on so
many seats. Probably for
the first time, the BJP
fielded candidates on
more seats than its main
Opposition party Con-
gress and for the first
time, BJP’s victory figure
crossed three hundred.
It is true that every
election is different. Its
issues are also different.
Therefore, analysts be-
lieve that it is not right to
draw conclusions for
2024 on the basis of 2019
data, but the fact is also
that after 2014, the popu-
larity of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi is in-
creasing instead of de-
creasing. This can also be
seen in the data of 2014
and 2019 Lok Sabha elec-
tions. In 2014, BJP won
136 seats with 50 percent
more vote share, which
increased to 224 in 2019.
In 2019, there were
236 candidates whose
victory margin was more
than two lakhs votes.
Of the 236 candidates
who won by a margin of
more than two lakh votes
in 2019, 164 were from
the BJP. Of the 131 who
won by a margin of more
than three lakh votes, 105
were from the BJP. The
remaining 26 included 10
from Dravida Munnetra
Kazhagam (DMK), five
from the Congress and
the rest were other candi-
dates. Compared to 2014,
the number of seats with
a margin of more than
three lakh votes was 63.
Will BJP’s mission be completed in 2024 or will the coalition politics of Opposition parties succeed?

jewala (Hathni Kund), which will be a lifeline for the Shekhawati area of Rajasthan, will be ready within four months and the Bhajan Lal Shar-
ma government of the state has started work on the ground regarding the project. The biggest dif- ficulty in the project may be related to land acquisi- tion. So, in the joint meeting of the Water Re-
sources Department and the Railways, it was con-
sidered to lay a drinking water line along the rail- way line.
A DPR will be pre-
pared after the Yamuna water agreement between Haryana and Rajasthan.
All possibilities of laying drinking water lines are being explored. Talks with the Railways seemed positive and of-
ficials of the water depart-
ment believe that it would be good if they get 100- 150 km to lay the line.

ndia has
once again
clinched a
Test series
victory, ex-
tending their unbeaten
streak at home since 2012.
The standout feature of
their recent triumph against
England is the emergence
of young talents who
stepped up admirably in the
absence of seasoned play-
ers. From Yashasvi Jaiswal
to Dhruv Jurel, these prom-
ising cricketers have not
only secured a series win
but have also sent a strong
signal that the transition to
the post-stalwart era will be
a seamless one, much to the
delight of fans.
As the fifth and final
Test unfolds, India finds
itself on the cusp of yet an-
other win, potentially cul-
minating in a series score-
line of 4-1. Following the
second day?s play, India
boasts a commanding lead
of 255 runs with two wick-
ets still in hand. The new
additions to the squad en-
sured India?s ascendancy,
particularly after England?s
lacklustre first innings
where they were bundled
out for a mere 218 runs.
Leading from the front,
Rohit Sharma delivered a
splendid century in the fifth
Test, marking his second of
the series. Rohit?s Midas
touch in recent months has
not only bolstered his per-
sonal performance but has
also set a shining example
for the young talent within
the team. Shubman Gill,
his opening partner, also
played a pivotal role by
contributing a phenomenal
century, his second in the
series. Gill?s fluent stroke-
play and adaptability have
silenced critics who ques-
tioned his form following a
shift from the opening slot
to the number 3 position.
Gill?s form became cru-
cial for India in the absence
of Virat Kohli, and he rose
to the occasion by scoring
two centuries along with a
notable 91 and a crucial
unbeaten half-century in
the second innings of the
fourth Test, securing the
series for India. His stand-
out feature has been his
shot selection and astute
reading of match situa-
tions. It?s evident that Gill
is destined to be a big star
in Indian cricket?s near fu-
ture, given the clear uptick
in his performance over the
course of the series.
Rohit?s opening partner,
Yashasvi Jaiswal, emerged
as another shining example
of India?s young talent pool.
Despite a slight misstep in
the first innings of the final
Test, where he gave away
his wicket after a blistering
half-century, Jaiswal?s
overall series performance
reflects deep focus and an
insatiable hunger for runs.
Jaiswal achieved the re-
markable feat of becoming
only the second batter after
Virat Kohli to hit back-to-
back double centuries in a
series. His ability to strike a
balance between attacking
and defensive gameplay has
been evident throughout the
series, with three centuries
and four fifties in just nine
matches, indicating a sky-
high potential for Jaiswal in
the coming times.
The series has witnessed
a string of debuts for India,
with some players standing
out prominently. Sarfaraz
Khan and Dhruv Jurel, in
particular, have made a sig-
nificant impact. Sarfaraz, a
name frequently discussed
in India?s selection meet-
ings over the last couple of
years, seized the opportu-
nity with twin half-centu-
ries in his first Test outing.
His attacking instinct
against spinners proved vi-
tal on turning Indian tracks,
putting India in command-
ing positions to dominate
matches. With three fifties
in as many Test matches,
Sarfaraz looks set to anchor
the middle order for India
in the upcoming seasons.
In the absence of Rishabh
Pant, India faced challeng-
es in finding a suitable re-
placement capable of mak-
ing a similar impact on the
game. However, in Jurel,
India discovered not only a
highly skilled wicketkeeper
but also a technically sound
batter with nerves of steel.
Jurel?s knock of 90 in the
first innings of the fourth
Test single-handedly turned
the tide for India from a po-
sition of despair. He fol-
lowed it up with an equally
impressive unbeaten 39 in
the tense chase in the next
innings. Many experts now
advocate for Jurel to con-
tinue as the keeper-batsman
even when Pant is fully fit,
with Pant taking on a role
as a pure batter.
Among the bowlers, In-
dia has seen the emergence
of a gem in Akashdeep
Singh. He made an impact-
ful debut in the fourth Test,
claiming three wickets in
his very first spell at the top
level. Akashdeep?s impres-
sive speed and disciplined
bowling have provided In-
dia with additional options,
especially when their top-
speedsters are unavailable.
Beyond the individual
performances and team suc-
cesses, the series has served
as a refreshing reminder to
cricket fans worldwide that
Test cricket can be extreme-
ly entertaining. As the IPL
is set to follow the Test se-
ries, the enduring appeal of
Test cricket is sure to leave
an indelible mark on fans?

A SIGNIFICANT VISIT TO
JAMMU AND KASHMIR
SWEDEN JOINS NATO,
DISQUIET MAY FOLLOW
rime Minister Narendra Modi?s first trip to
Srinagar after the abrogation of Article 370
is of great symbolic and political importance.
His last visit was to Jammu in 2019. He was there to
?trying to win hearts of the people? and his attack on
dynastic politics targeted the Congress, National
Conference and the People?s Democratic Party, both
significant points for the Union Territory which
hopes to go to the polls along with the rest of the
country.
Jammu & Kashmir does not have an elected gov-
ernment and expects Assembly election to be held
later this year as per the Supreme Court?s directive
to the Election Commission of India. There?s also a
possibility of Lok Sabha and Assembly elections be-
ing held simultaneously.
His attack on dynastic politics will ensure that the
Congress will get isolated in J&K. The National Con-
ference leaders, chiefly Omar Abdullah, have been
very critical of the Congress and last month his father
Farooq Abdullah hinted that he may rejoin the NDA.
P
urope is heading towards disquiet following Sweden?s bold move to join the North Atlan- tic Treaty Alliance defying Russia?s ominous
warnings of ?political and military-technical? retali-
ation. Moscow?s unspecified threat echoes Ukraine?s attempts to join NATO and indirectly reminds Swe- den of the ongoing conflict there. The implications are clear: the move could escalate tensions in the region. With Sweden ending 200 years of neutrality, which follows Finland joining NATO on April 4, 2023, the Alliance gets a member which is rich and militarily strong.
The significance
of Sweden?s decision lies in NATO?s doc-
trine, which obligates member states to de- fend each other, even through direct inter-
vention if necessary could bring Russia in direct conflict with NATO. Unlike Ukraine, which re-
mains outside of NATO, awaiting for-
mal membership, Sweden?s member-
ship means any at-
tack on it would trig-
ger a response from the entire alliance.
Russia?s reaction
to Sweden?s entry into NATO raises concerns about the stability of Europe. With the mem- ory of past conflicts still fresh, any military or politi-
cal counter measures could have severe repercus- sions. The delicate balance of power in the region is at risk of being upset as two more countries -- Bosnia- Herzegovina and Georgia -- await NATO member-
ship. Georgia?s membership has also been strongly opposed by Russia.
As Europe braces for potential fallout, diplo-
matic efforts to ease tensions must be prioritised. Dialogue and negotiation offer the best hope for preventing further escalation and maintaining peace in the region. The international community must remain vigilant and committed to upholding the principles of sovereignty and security for all nations involved.

Indians tricked into working for Russia: Govt takes action

Many Indians have fallen victim to a scam where they were lured into working for the Russian Army. The Indian gov-
ernment has strongly raised the issue with Rus- sian authorities to ensure the prompt return of these individuals.
The official spokesper-
son of Ministry of Exter-
nal Affairs (MEA) Ran-
dhir Jaiswal on Friday said: “The CBI yesterday busted a major human trafficking network con- ducting searches in sev- eral cities and collecting incriminating evidence. A case of human trafficking has been registered against several agents.”
This came after the
CBI busted a racket linked to a human traf-
ficking network a day after the MEA confirmed that a youth from Hy-
derabad who was duped into the Russia-Ukraine war, was killed in the frontline. He said that the government has taken decisive steps against the agents and dishonest in- dividuals who deceived these Indian nationals with false promises.
“We once again appeal
to Indian nationals to not be swayed by offers made by agents for sup- port jobs with the Rus- sian Army,” he added.

Congress has promised five guarantees before the LS polls with focus on youths, women and farmers. To inform the public at large about the guarantees of the Con-
gress party, a press con- ference was held in the District Congress Office of Nagaur on Friday wherein, former PCC member Virendra Choud- hary while addressing the media said that Con-
gress?s guarantees are based on facts. He said, ?like Modi government, we don?t make state-
ments. Whatever prom-
ises Congress makes, it fulfils them.?
Choudhary said that if
Congress comes to pow- er, it will secure the fu-
ture of 30 lakh youths by giving them govt jobs. ?Besides, the MSP Act will provide full benefits to farmers. A law will be brought to stop paper leaks. Under the gig economy, social security will be provided to youth and those below 40 years of age, will be given funds for startups. The State Government has handed two impor-
tant responsibilities to 2010 batch IAS, Vish-
wamohan Sharma, how- ever, he does not have any room to operate his office! The new govern-
ment called him to Jaipur from the post of Kekri Collector and appointed him as Commissioner- Mid Day Meal in Janu-
ary this year. However, the small office of the department does not have any room allocated for the Commissioner! When Vishwamohan in- formed the government of his problem, the DoP brought out a unique so-
lution to his problem and in response to providing a room in the Secretariat, he was given the addi-
tional charge of Special Secretary, Education Department. But 2009 batch IAS, Chitra Gupta has already been posted in this position since May 2023 and there is only one post of Special Secretary in the depart-
ment. Now neither is
Vishwa Mohan able to understand which new responsibility he should assume and which room he should sit in, nor do the Education Depart-
ment officials know as to which post?s additional charge be handed to Vishwa Mohan!
It seems that Vishwa
Mohan?s stars are mis- aligned as in the past five years, he has under-
gone nine transfers. He has been appointed as Collector thrice, but he could stay in Jaisalmer for merely thirteen months, for only six months in Ajmer and three months in Kekri and now, he does not

Govt?s work to be

The Election Commis-

These officials span from
Principal Secretaries of

the Commission has
warned that ?unauthor-
ised absence shall be

and may lead to the ini-
tiation of disciplinary
proceedings.? It is thus,
clear that since so many
officials will be out on
