4. Latin – tornare Greek- tornos - means to circle around to come back to the point of origin after going to a destination- (Theobald 1998)

5. It refers to the activities of people when they go through a place in order to see and learn it in person- (Merriam-Webster dictionary)

6. What is tour guide? . A person who guides people , to help people appreciate the place , discover interesting things and make use of time efficiently

7. The Philippine Department of Tourism1995 (DOT) defines tour guide as “an individual who guides tourist both foreign and domestic with fee, commission or any form of lawful remuneration” they recognizes only tour guides who undergo proper training

8. What is tour guiding? Provisions of professional service to interpret the cultural and natural heritage of an area-(World Federation of Tourist Guide Association-WFTGA )

9. Interpretation - refers to translation of information from one language to another but the description of cultural and natural attractions to help people gain better understanding and appreciation.

Roles of Tour Guide Meeting and greeting the tour participants upon arrival and facilitating introduction Coordinating pre-arranged accomodation and transport and making sure that tour participants are comfortable . Coordinating pre-arranged tours including visits to local attractions,shops , restaurants etc.. Leading tour groups and pointing out places of interest

Roles of Tour Guide Preparing and presenting tour guide spiels called tour commentaries Researching and sharing general information about city/country Attending operational problems such as booking errors and changes,lost bags or sickness and providing first aid Preparing and submitting written reports of how the day’s tour turned out, including financial report and other administrative work.

Elements of Tour Guiding Professionalism-proper training Service-form of service –intangible, perishable, unique Interpretational-educate the tourist Physical elements-facilities of hotels, modes of transformation,the things that tourist find in tourist attraction Characteristics of Tour Guide- mature, responsible, patient,tactful and sensitive to different cultures, articulate, quick- witted,organized and healthy.
