There are plenty of online collaborative tools that an organization or group can use to communicate using internet. Identify one of them and briefly describe its usage.

Rich content in the Online Environment and the User Experience Rich user experience is the ability of the Web to deliver full-scale GUI style applications to the client, making it easier to interact, share, and access Web content. Although rich user experience is based on rich contents, it focuses on the rich user interface to enhance how the data is presented, manipulated, and used by the users.

GUI (Graphical User Interface) is a program that allows a person to work easily with a computer by using a mouse to point a small pictures and other elements on the screen.

Multimedia is the integration of text, sound, graphics, animation, and video into a single unit. Interactive means that the user or audience has control over the program or presentation.

The Evolution to Web 3.0

Web 2.0 is the interactive version of web-based communities and social networking websites like Facebook, Orkut, LinkedIn, etc. It also includes video sharing, wikis, blogs, mashups, etc. In Web 2.o, the user cannot only receive information but also contribute and modify the available content. It is also referred to as ‘read-write internet’. Web 2.0, Web 3.0, and User Participation in the Web

Features of Web 2.0 1. Users can modify the available content. 2. Use web pages to link different users. 3. Content can be shared more efficiently. 4. Information can be obtained by subscribing to a web page’s RSS.

Features of Web 2.0 • RSS (Really Simple Syndication) – is a family of web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video in a standardized format. With this small RSS, the person can have updated real-time information. Apart from this, the subscriber can receive updates on any development in the web page as long as there is access to the internet.

Features of Web 2.0 5. It allows one to access internet through not only the computer but also mobiles, television, etc.

Types of Rich and Multimedia Content

The type of rich and multimedia content currently includes but are not limited to: A. Videos, embedder, and on-demand Through video hosting sites, you can take a video and show it to the entire world (e.g., YouTube). HTML5 introduces a ribbon of new tags to accommodate the increasingly interactive and multimedia nature of the Web. While there have been numerous ways to embed video, audio, and dynamic imagery in the past, the new web standard attempts to make this easier, more consistent, and more reliable.

Markdown . It includes syntax for embedding images, but not audio and video files. Embedded video in particular has become a lot more commonplace since John Gruber wrote the original Markdown spec. It would be good to have a standard or common way to embed audio and video using Markdown.

Online Tools to Produce Video Content

1. Facebook Live is a Facebook’s live-streaming tool used to engage viewers in real-time.

2. YouTube editor is used to create new videos and edit clips and publish them to YouTube with one click. All of your uploads are added automatically to the video editor. You can combine multiple videos, add music from a library of approved tracks, and customize clips with special tools and effects.

3. YouTube live streaming. Once your YouTube channel is enabled, you have three options to start a live stream. Stream Now is a quick and easy way to send content to automatically start and stop the stream for you at the right time

4. Adobe Spark . Spark is Adobe’s app to transform ideas into visual stories. You can pick photos, add text, and apply design filters to create professional graphics and easily combine video clips, photos, and icons into an engaging video.

5. Magisto is an app to create professional videos with easy-to-use editing tools, captions, custom branding, and commercially licensed music

6. Facebook Slideshow. Facebook slideshow ads are video-like ads that use motion, sound, and text to tell your story across devices. Slideshows load quickly so they play beautifully on any connection speed.

7. Loopster is a full-featured online video editor with an easy-to-use interface. You can edit your videos by rotating, cropping, splicing, zooming, and adding sound effects to either standard or high-definition videos. You also can add and reorder video fragments, overlay music and titles, add animated transitions, and saved to any format.

8. Wideo is a tool to create animated videos for a marketing campaign. Just drag and drop elements or upload your own images and start animating in a few clicks.

9. Periscope is a Twitter’s app for live streaming. Broadcast live video and interact with people through hearts and comments. Instantly share your live videos to Twitter and other social network.

11.StoriesAds.com is a tool for creating compelling video content tailored for Instagram’s vertical format. StoriesAds.com provides the tools for advertisers and marketers to build vertical video assets for Instagram directly from a web browser in a quick and cost-effective manner.

12. Animoto is a platform for creating videos and slideshows with three story telling products. The marketing video builder is a drag-and-drop tool, designed to perform well on social media. The slideshow builder provides roughly 100 templates to turn photos and video clips into a professional slideshow video.

B. Sound, Music, or Audio. If videos are too much for you, you can always record sounds. You can now share your sound bites to the entire world (e.g., Soundcloud). C. Online Games, Tests, and Courseware

Online Games An online game is a video game that is either partially or primarily played through the internet or another computer network. Game developers now create what is called “browser-based games.” You do not need to install these games to your computer as they run in most updated web browsers (e.g., AdventureQuest , Farmville, Candy Crush, DOTA 2, League Legends, Mobile Legends).

Online Test Electronic assessment also known as e-assessment or online test is the use of information technology in various forms of assessment such as educational assessment, health assessment, and psychological assessment. This may utilize an online computer connected to a network. Online survey forms and tests automatically display the results when finished (e.g., Online IQ, Personality Tests, Quipper School).

Online Courseware Courseware is educational material intended as kits for teachers or trainers or as tutorials for students usually packaged for use with a computer. Courseware can encompass any knowledge area but information technology subjects are most common. Courseware can include material for instructorled classes, web sites that offer interactive tutorials, material that is coordinated with distance learning such as online classes conducted over the internet, and videos for use individually or as part of classes (e.g., E-learning Courses using a Learning Management System).

D. Web-, Game-, Pod-, and Vod -casting Webcast Webcast is a media file distributed over the internet using streaming media technology. A webcast may either be distributed live or on demand. Essentially, webcasting is broadcasting over the internet. A webcast uses streaming media technology to take a single content source and distribute it to many simultaneous listeners or viewers.

According to PCMAG, Webcast means to • send live audio or video programming over the web. It is the internet counterpart to traditional radio and TV broadcasting. • send selected Web-based information (text, graphics, audio, video, etc..) to internet users based on individual requirements. Users typically must have the appropriate multimedia application in order to view a Webcast. www.webopedia.com

Gamecast Gamecast is a hook for some functionality that will be available in the future. What it does is send play by play data to web server. The intent is that if you are scoring a game on an iPhone (or an iPod Touch with WiFi connectivity), you will be able to send the play-by-play data to the server in real time, and other people interested in your game will be able to access your data.

There are at least a couple of ways to make this data available: A web view of the game much lie you can see on espn.com of MLB games whereas the game progresses, people can “watch it” on the internet. • Another user with iScore can be kept in sync while you are scoring a game.

Podcast A podcast is an episodic series of digital audio or video files which a user can download and listen to. It is often available for subscription, so that new episodes are automatically downloaded via web syndication to the user’s own local computer, mobile application, or portable media player (e.g., Stuff You Should Know, TED Talks, The Starters, Ear Biscuits).

Vodcast A vodcast is something like a TV program or element of a program. Unlike TV programs which you have to watch when scheduled, vodcasts are stored on servers and you can download them whenever you want. It is a “Video on Demand” (VOD) with ‘cast’ thrown on the end as in broadcast. It is an episodic series of video streamed online (e.g., YouTube series/shows like Video Game High School, Good Mythical Morning).

Benefits of Vodcasting • Video content on demand when consumer wants access. • Easier and cheaper than TV production. • Allows for skills and delivery convergence. A newspaper can be an online broadcaster and a broadcaster can be an online newspaper. • Flexible mass distribution much easier. • Little to no cost for maker or consumer. - No copies to be made and distributed.
