Assume that this water
represents all the water
Present on the earth
This represents total
fresh water on the earth
This gives a measure
of usable water present
as ground water
This represents all the
water present in all
lakes and rivers of the
world
TOTAL WATER
•TOTAL WATER--- 326 MILLION
TRILLIAN GALLONS
•70% IN OCEANS
•2% FRESH WATER 1.6% IS LOCKED
IN POLAR ICE AND GLACIERS

•Groundwater is water that comes from the
ground .
Groundwater comes from rain, snow, sleet, and hail that
soaks into the ground. passing between particles of soil, sand,
gravel
The water moves down into the ground because of gravity,
or rock until it reaches a depth where the ground is filled, or
saturated, with water.
•Rain water and water from other sources
seeps through the soil and fills the empty
spaces .The process of seeping of water
into the ground is called INFILTRATION.
•At Places ground water is stored between
layers of hard rock . This known as
acquifer.
• Going down. Several centimeters' worth of water (pink) disappears
each year from beneath the northern Indian subcontinent.
