Slide Content

Rotational kinematics It is the branch of physics which deals with the study of rotational motion with out going into the cause of motion. Circular motion

Circular & Rotational Motion In a  circular motion , the object just moves in a circle. For example, artificial satellites going around Earth at a constant height. In  rotational motion , the object rotates about an axis. For example, Earth rotating on its own axis.

Angular Displacement Angular displacement of a particle undergoing rotational motion is defined as the angle turned by its radius vector. It is a vector quantity whose direction is given by the right hand thumb rule.

Angular Velocity

Circular Motion [lecture – 2]

Relation between linear and angular Displacement

Relation between linear and angular Velocity

Equation of motion for Rotational kinematics

Centripetal Force The Force acting along the radius towards the center, which is essential to keep the body moving in a circle with uniform speed is called centripetal force.

Direction of centripetal force

Circular Motion [lecture – 3]

Centripetal Force The Force acting along the radius towards the center, which is essential to keep the body moving in a circle with uniform speed is called centripetal force.

Centrifugal Force Centripetal force is the fictious/pseudo force which acts on a body, rotating with uniform velocity in a circle, along the radius away from the center. Centripetal force and centrifugal force are equal in magnitude but opposite in direction.

Pseudo Force

Application of centrifugal force Centrifugal force finds its application in the development of centrifuges. Centrifuge is a machine which is used to separate the lighter and heavier object. (Example :- Separation of cream from milk)

Application of centripetal force (Conical Pendulum)

Circular Motion [lecture – 4] Banking Of Road

Banking Of Road For motion along a curve a centripetal force is required in the horizontal direction along the radius towards the center. A banked rode is that whose outeredge is raised above its inneredge such that the road slopes down towards the center of curvature of rode.

Case -1 ( Road offering no friction)

Case -2 ( Road offering friction)

Bending of cyclist

A body starting from rest undergoes rotational motion with uniform angular acceleration of 5 rad s -1 How many rotation will it complete in 50 sec.

A car goes round a curve, of radius 8m, with a velocity of 54 km h -1 What is it’s angular velocity?
