KAAPVAAL CRATON – BOTSWANA
The Kaapvaal craton is a prolific locality for gold,
PGE and base metal deposits in South Africa;
But less so in
Botswana
WHY?
| 8

9
•Kalahari Desert sands
cover>70%of Botswana - has
hindered exploration of many
prospective areas.
•South Africa is twice the size of
Botswana but boasts 5 times as
many mines; despite very similar
geological potential.
KALAHARI DESERT SANDS - BOTSWANA
South Africa has 552 mines
Botswana has just 116 mines*

▪More than 80% of the KGB is unexplored in Botswana

ARCHEAN GREENSTONE BELTS
•Geological units found within every Archean craton
2.5 to 4 billion years old;reflect very early stages of
earth’s tectonics and continent formation.
•Often linear to curvilinear belt-like structures;
typically 10–25 km wide, 10's to 100's km long
•Prolific creation of precious and base metal deposits
(e.g. Au, Ag, Ni, Cu, Zn) from metal rich volcanic
rocks and subsequent magmatic activity and
metasomatism.
•Largest greenstone belt with the most mines
worldwide is the Abitibi Greenstone Belt within the
Superior Craton (Other Cdn eg: Red Lake, Hope Bay)

THE ABITIBI GREENSTONE BELT
Produced 604,000 oz of gold in 2023 – the
most in Canada.
Poured its 7 M oz of gold in June 2023.
•450 km long by 150 km wide.
•>200 M oz of gold produced since
1901 with current reserves and
resources exceeds 300 M oz.
•124 mines, at least 15 have yielded
>3.5 million ounces gold.
•Produced over 35 B lbs Zn, 15 B lbs
Cu, and 400 M oz silver
Home to 3 of the 5 largest annual producers of gold in Canada
Malartic Mine

•Hope Bay Greenstone Belt has seen consistent exploration
and assessment since the late 80’s.
•Agnico stated resources and reserves as of Dec 2022 –
current work focused on building resources and reserves.
•Proven and probable - 3.4 million ounces
(16.3 million tonnes grading 6.50 g/t gold),
•Indicated - 1.1 million ounces
(9.8 million tonnes grading 3.58 g/t gold)
•Inferred - 2.0 million ounces (11.0 million tonnes at 5.49

•Kimberlite field discovered by North Arrow
•Local infrastructure - 10 km from SK Hwy 911
•PK150 kimberlite: 1,232 diamonds > 0.106
mm from 531 kg
•10 discrete kimberlites discovered; 5 tested
and proven diamondiferous
•More kimberlite discoveries to be made
•Application of deep machine learning in
2022
•Drill ready targets
•Permitted for geophysics and drilling

LOKI DIAMOND PROJECT, NWT
•Brownfields exploration near Ekati and Diavik diamond
mines; lower threshold for economic discovery
•Last well defined, unsourced, kimberlite indicator mineral
train at Lac de Gras
•Use of deep machine learning to identify additional
