OBJECTIVES
Describe the development of the child’s ability to
represent knowledge
Explain how the spiral curriculum works
Demonstrate appreciation of discovery learning
as a teaching strategy
“Learners are encouraged to
discover facts and relationships
for themselves.”
Jerome Bruner
CONSTRUCTIVISM
Constructivism
is basically a theory -- based
on observation and scientific study -- about
how people learn. It says that people
construct their own understanding and
knowledge of the world, through
experiencing things and reflecting on those
experiences.
DISCOVERY LEARNING
Discovery learning refers to obtaining
knowledge for oneself
ASPECTS OF THEORY OF INSTRUCTION
1.Predisposition to learn
2.Structure of Knowledge
Understanding the fundamental structure of a subject makes it more
comprehensible
To generate knowledge which is transferable to other contexts,
fundamental principles or patterns are best suited.
The discrepancy between beginning and advanced knowledge is
diminished when instruction centers on a structure and principles of
orientation
3.Effective sequencing
4.Reinforcement
CATEGORIZATION
Categories are “rules” that specify four things
about objects.
1.Criterial attributes
2.How criterial attributes are combined
3.Weight to various properties
4.Acceptance limits on attributes
KINDS OF CATEGORIES
1.Identity categories
2.Equivalent categories
3.Coding Systems
