HAZARD IDENTIFICATION

Hazard Identification :-Before starting any work, it is important to assess the safety hazards within your work area. Learning to see potential hazards before they take place is a key component of working safely and protecting the safety of coworkers and others. What is hazard : A source, situation or act with a potential to cause harm in terms of human injury or ill‐health or combination of these Hazards exist from four areas in our company: People • Improperly trained or poorly supervised • Not paying attention to surroundings • Not wearing the assigned or appropriate PPE. • Not following safe work practices Equipment Poorly maintained or uninspected equipment Unguarded equipment Using defective or worn-out equipment for the task Materials Working with materials that are flammable or require special storage and handling Working with chemicals that are dangerous when inhaled or in contact with skin

Environment A wet floor Insufficient lighting Loud or constant sounds Inclement weather, congestion, insufficient access How to identify hazards Verify there are no slip, trip and fall hazards such as hoses, timber, packaging, banding, etc. laying on the floor or ground . Be mindful of material/chemical contamination injuries due to splashes in the eyes or on the skin; watch for over‐exposure; understand the properties of the chemical in terms of flammability, combustibility, corrosiveness and potential for personal injury, refer MSD. Understand the travel patterns of moving vehicles so there are no collisions, bumps and other injuries Verify machine guarding is in place and properly functioning to avoid pinch points and tangled hair, clothing and jewelry. Note any processes that generate flying chips or debris that could cause eye injuries and/or punctures . Verify emergency stops and cords are in place and properly working. Verify good condition of air, water and hydraulic lines to minimize uncontrolled release Verify Personal Protective Equipment is being used and is suitable for the job . Be aware of overhead and fall hazards.

What to do when a Hazard is identified. Every employee has a responsibility to report the hazards. If immediate action can be taken, such as cleaning up trip hazards or powering down unsafe equipment, then do so. If the hazard requires more extensive action, such as repairing the equipment, securing loads or changing work processes, then submit these ideas to the supervisor along with the notification of the hazard.
