SIMPLE PRESENT INTERROGATIVE and NEGATIVE

The verbs in English need AUXILIARY VERBS to do the interrogative and the negative forms .

In this class we will learn how to do this in the SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE. DO is the AUXILIARY VERB . a) You speak English every day . Let’s tranform this affirmative sentence in an INTERROGATIVE sentence and after in a NEGATIVE:

INTERROGATIVE : Do you speak English every day ? auxiliary verb main verb adverb NEGATIVE : I do not speak English every day . ( do n’t ) main verb adverb

b) She speaks Japanese every day . INTERROGATIVE: Does she speak Japanese every day ? auxiliary verb main verb NEGATIVE: She does not speak Japanese every day . doesn’t main verb

INTERACTIVE EXERCISES Considering what we study today say TRUE or FALSE: We need an auxiliary verb every time we create a sentence in the simple present tense in the interrogative of negative form. DO is not the auxiliary verb for the interrogative and negative form in the simple present tense. When we use the auxiliary verb (DO) is also necessary to flex the main verb. If the sentence has a subject in the 3rd person singular, we flex only the auxiliary verb , so it will be DOES . In the negative form we use AUXILIARY VERB + NOT, and it can be written in the contracted form DON’T or DOESN’T .
