Fixed Partial Denture ( Bridge , Fixed Bridge, Fixed Prosthesis, Fixed appliance) Fixed Partial Denture: is a prosthetic appliance that is permanently attached to the adjacent teeth , roots or implants and replaces one or more missing teeth.

Components of bridge: 1- Abutment   Natural tooth or root or implant which support and retain the bridge at one or both terminals. Pier abutment (Intermediate abutment tooth) is an isolated abutment tooth where the anterior and posterior adjacent teeth to it are missing.  

2- Retainer   Is a restoration rebuilding the prepared tooth and by means of which the pontics are anchored to the abutment teeth.   Retainer

3- Pontic (Dummy)   Is the part of the bridge which acts as the actual substitute for the lost tooth and is suspended between the retainers replacing the lost natural tooth functionally and aesthetically.   Pontic

4-Connector :   Is the part of the bridge uniting the pontic(s) with the retainer(s) so joining the component parts of the bridge.   Connector
