Habit #2: Begin with
the End in Mind

Where You Want to Go
2.All Things Are Created Twice: Mental
Creation Precedes Physical Creation
3.Leadership vs. Management: First
Determine the Right Wall, Then Climb
Efficiently
4.A Personal Mission Statement: Your
Personal Constitution
5.Roles and Goals: Living a Balanced,
Purposeful Life

Mission
Statement

1. Define Your
Destination: Knowing
Where You Want to Go
•"To Begin with the End in Mind means to start with a
clear understanding of your destination. It means to
know where you're going so that you better understand
where you are now and so that the steps you take are
always in the right direction."
•Imagine your own funeral. What do you want people to
say about you? This exercise clarifies your definition of
success and what truly matters most.
•Consider what God desires for your life. What legacy do
you want to leave behind that honors Him and serves
His purposes?
•"For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to
do good works, which God prepared in advance for us
to do." (Ephesians 2:10)

2. All Things Are Created
Twice: Mental Creation
Precedes Physical Creation
•"'Begin with the End in Mind' is based on the principle
that all things are created twice. There's a mental or first
creation, and a physical or second creation to all things."
•Just like building a house from a blueprint, every part of
our lives undergoes a first creation (mental) and a
second creation (physical). Proactively design your life
based on your values and principles.
•God is the ultimate Creator, and we are made in His
image with the power to create and envision. We can
use this power to align our lives with God's plan,
creating a "blueprint" for a life that glorifies Him.
•"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to
do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to
do." (Ephesians 2:10)

3. Leadership vs. Management:
First Determine the Right Wall,
Then Climb Efficiently
•"Management is a bottom-line focus: How can I best
accomplish certain things? Leadership deals with the
top line: What are the things I want to accomplish?"
•Leadership is about vision, direction, and purpose
(doing the right things). Management is about efficiency
and execution (doing things right). Both are necessary,
but leadership must come first.
•God is the ultimate leader, guiding us with His Word
and Spirit. We are called to be servant leaders,
following His example and leading others with love and
humility.
• "But whoever wants to become great among you must
be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be
your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be
served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for
many." (Matthew 20:26-28)

4. A Personal Mission
Statement: Your
Personal Constitution
•"The most effective way I know to Begin with the End in
Mind is to develop a personal mission statement or
philosophy or creed. It focuses on what you want to be
(character) and to do (contributions and achievements)
and on the values or principles upon which being and
doing are based."
•A written mission statement provides a clear, concise
expression of your vision, values, and goals, giving
direction and purpose to your life. It becomes the
standard by which you measure everything else.
•Your mission statement can be an expression of your
calling and commitment to live in obedience to God's
will and to use your gifts to serve Him and others.
•"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future." (Jeremiah 29:11)

5. Roles and Goals: Living a
Balanced, Purposeful Life
•"Writing your mission in terms of the important roles in your life
gives you balance and harmony. It keeps each role clearly
before you."
•Identify the various roles you have in life (individual, spouse,
parent, employee, etc.) and set long-term goals that support
your mission statement for each role.
•We are called to fulfill various roles in our families,
communities, and churches. Our goals should reflect a
commitment to serve God and others in each area of our lives.
•"Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your
soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The
second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no
commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:30-31)

Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
1.Define Your Destination: Knowing Where You Want to Go
2.All Things Are Created Twice: Mental Creation Precedes Physical Creation
3.Leadership vs. Management: First Determine the Right Wall, Then Climb Efficiently
4.A Personal Mission Statement: Your Personal Constitution
5.Roles and Goals: Living a Balanced, Purposeful Life
These concepts highlight the importance of proactively designing our lives around a clear vision and purpose, guided by eternal principles and a commitment to God's will.
