Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) : “It is the amount of oxygen required by bacteria to oxidize organic matter to stable end products such as CO2 and water.” Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) : “It is the amount of oxygen required to oxidize the organic matter chemically by using a strong oxidizing agent (K 2 Cr 2 O 7 ) in an acidic medium (H2SO4).” COD values are typically higher than BODs. Total Organic Carbon : The test indicates the total amount of carbon present in a wastewater sample.
