INDIA’S ENERGY
CHALLENGE India is among the fastest growing economy in the
world and its energy consumption is slated to
increase rapidly.
Major Concerns with
Dependence on Fossil FuelsGrowing Import Bill Carbon Emissions Fact:
India presently imports close to 85% of
crude which roughly translates to 45% of
primary energy demand.

A Vikalp

SATAT Scheme on Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) was launched by
Hon'ble Minister, Petroleum & Natural Gas on 1.10.2018. The
scheme envisages to target production of 15 MMT (million
tons) of CBG by 2023, from 5000 Plants.

Bio-Manure Production

‘SATAT’ SCHEME
Encouraging entrepreneurs to set up CBG plants, produce & supply
CBG to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) for sale as automotive &
industrial fuels.
ONE INITIATIVE SOLVING MULTIPLE PROBLEMS
Developmental effort to benefit Vehicle-users as well as Farmers and Entrepreneurs.
Efficient tackling of urban Air Pollution due to farm stubble-burning and carbon emissions.
Reduce dependency on crude oil imports and realize PM’s vision of
Enhancing Farmers’ Income,
Rural employment and
Entrepreneurship.
Efficient treatment and disposal of Agricultural Residue, Mandi Waste & Municipal Solid Waste.
Promoting Organic Farming using Fermented Organic Manure (FOM) produced from CBG plants.

BIO GAS - THE BASIC PROCESSAnaerobic Digestion
By-products UtilizationFeedstock Collection
Biogas Purification
The collected feedstock is placed in a
digester, an oxygen-free environment
where microorganisms break down the
organic material. This process produces
biogas and a nutrient-rich slurry. The nutrient-rich slurry left after biogas
extraction can be used as organic
fertilizer, improving soil health and
reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
The raw biogas is purified to remove
impurities like hydrogen sulfide and
carbon dioxide. The result is CBG, which
has energy content comparable to CNG
(Compressed Natural Gas).Organic materials such as cattle dung,
agricultural residue, kitchen waste, and
municipal solid waste are collected and
sorted. Feedstock with high moisture
content and biodegradable properties is
preferred.

ENCOURAGEMENT
FROM THE GOVERNEMNT Central Government Under SATAT Scheme, 5,000 CBG plants by 2023 to produce 15 million tonnes (MT) of CBG annually.
With Commercial Buyback Guarantee.
Capital Subsidy of 4 Crores to 6 Cr.
MDA (Marketer Development Assistance) on fertilizers - ₹1500 Per Ton.
Carbon Credit Eligibility:
CBG plants included under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement for generating carbon credits.

ENCOURAGEMENT
FROM THE GOVERNEMNT Uttar Pradesh Government Bioenergy Policy 2022
Subsidy:
₹75 lakh per tonne of CBG produced, capped at ₹20 crore.
Additional 30% subsidy for equipment like balers, rakers, and trolleys (up to ₹20 lakh).
Land Incentive:
Government land leased at ₹1 per acre per year for 30 years for CBG plants and feedstock storage.
10 acres for 10 Plant and 25 acres for storage.
Infrastructure Support:
Funding for up to 5 km of approach roads to plants, capped at ₹50 crore.
Waivers:
Complete waiver on stamp duty, development fees, and electricity duty.

ENCOURAGEMENT
FROM THE GOVERNEMNT Uttar Pradesh Government Electricity Surcharge Duty waved off 100% for 10 years.
You can setup your own dispensing unit.
Feedstock Supply Support:
Sugar mills mandated to supply pressmud under long-term contracts.
Organized collection systems for cow dung, agricultural residue, and market waste.
CBG Plant Goals:
Target: 1,000 tonnes of CBG per day by 2027.
Budget allocation: ₹750 crore for CBG development (2022–2027).
