INTRODUCTION In the complex field of biology education, the senior secondary school curriculum plays a vital role in shaping the scientific understanding of developing minds (Nguyen et al ., 2020). This introduction highlights the significance of microbiology as a central element of the curriculum, emphasizing its impact on health, disease, and the environment. It sets the stage for the exploration of challenges in comprehending microbiological concepts.

Statement of The Problem Within the landscape of senior secondary education, a noticeable academic performance gap manifests in the field of microbiology. Despite its inherent importance and real-world applications, there is a discernible concern about the lack of understanding of microbiological concepts among students at this educational level (Fraga, 2018). This slide delves into the specific issues identified, citing studies that reveal consistent challenges faced by students in comprehending microbiological concepts.

Aim and Objectives The broad objective is to investigate the factors influencing senior secondary students' understanding of microbiological concepts and their achievements in microbiological areas, with the aim of addressing the observed lack of comprehension in microbiology education. To assess the level of students’ understanding of microbiological concepts. To evaluate the level of students’ achievement in the microbiological areas of the senior secondary curriculum. To determine the relationship between students’ understanding of microbiological concepts and their achievement in microbiological areas of the senior secondary curriculum.

Methodology: Descriptive Survey Design This research will employ a descriptive survey design, aiming to provide a comprehensive exploration into the determinants shaping students' comprehension of microbiological concepts at the senior secondary level. A descriptive survey design allows for the collection of detailed information to address the research questions effectively.

Methodology: Study Area and Selection Criteria The study will encompass five randomly selected Senior Secondary Schools in the Ijebu-Ode axis of Ogun State. This geographical focus aims to offer localized insights relevant to the specific educational setting of the selected schools. The intentional selection of schools in this region facilitates a profound scrutiny of the challenges and opportunities within microbiology education.

Methodology: Data Collection and Analysis The data collection and analysis for the study will be done by securing written permissions from the school administrators of the five randomly selected senior secondary schools. Following this, visits to each school will be made to administer the research instruments to the targeted respondents, involving a total of 150 students. The instruments will be distributed and collected on the same day to minimize potential instrument fatality. During the process, the researchers will be present to address any queries or misconceptions the respondents might have, ensuring a comprehensive and accurate data collection experience. This approach aims to gather robust data while prioritizing the efficiency and clarity of the data collection process.
