Adverb

WHAT IS AN ADVERB ? An adverb is a word which modifies the meaning of a Verb, and Adjective or another Adverbs used in the sentence. Example :- 1. She sings beautifully. 2 . He spoke softly. 3 . The dog jumped high. 4 . She runs fast.

Commonly adverbs are formed from adjectives. Some are below Adjectives Adverbs Kind Happy Wonderful Loud Sad Beautiful Sweet Kindly Happily Wonderfully Loudly Sadly Beautifully Sweetly

Many adverbs end with ly . You make these adverbs by adding ly to adjectives. Note : Some Words that end in ly are not adverbs. Some adjectives end in ly too. For Example :-   S am was feeling very lonely .  She was Wearing a lovely dress.  It was a very lively party.

Kinds of adverbs :-  Adverbs of Place  Adverbs of Manner  Adverbs of Time  Adverbs of Frequency  Adverbs of Purpose/Reason  Adverbs of Quantity/Degree  Adverbs of Affirmation/Negation

Adverbs of place :- Some Adverbs and Adverb Phrases answer the Question “where?”. They are called Adverbs of place. Examples : The boys are playing upstairs. The dog is in the garden . We’re going to new york city on our school trip. His children go everywhere with him.

Adverbs of manner :- Some Adverbs and adverb phrases describe the way people do things. Example :  The plane landed safely.  He was driving carelessly.  Ramu plays guitar skillfully.  The team played wonderfully.

Adverbs of time :- Some adverbs and adverb phrases answer the question “when”. Examples : The train has already left. We moved into our new house last week. Our favourite T.V program starts at 6’o clock. I’m going to my new school tomorrow.

Adverbs of frequency : Some adverbs and adverb phrases answer the Question “how often an action is done” They are adverbs of frequency. Examples :  The children always go to school on the bus.  I’ll never make that mistake again.  I clean my bedroom every day.  Dad polishes his shoes twice a week.

Adverbs of purpose/ reason :- Adverbs of purpose, sometimes called adverbs of reason, help to describe why something happened. They can come in the form of individual words – so, since, thus, because   Examples : I am thirsty so I drank Juice Since its very hot, she is very tired

Adverbs of Quantity/Degree Adverbs of degree tell us about the  intensity  of something. Adverbs of degree are usually placed  before  the adjective, adverb, or verb that they modify, although there are some exceptions.  Examples: Really , too, very, strongly, highly, incredibly, quite, extremely, remarkably, almost, completely, fully, pretty, unusually, etc. are some examples of adverbs of degree I got here  early enough . Can I go to the zoo  too ?

Adverbs of Affirmation/Negation The word which declare that something is true or some equivalent expression or negative statement, judgment, doctrine or a logical proposition is called Adverbs of affirmation and negation." Difference between Adverbs of Affirmation and Adverbs of Negation. »  Adverb of Affirmation : I will definitely do that project. In the sentence ‘definitely’ affirms the listener that the speaker is going to do the task which is being talked about. ‘Definitely’ is therefore an Adverb of Affirmation. »  Adverb of Negation : I will never do that project.
