INCOMING PREPARATION SEMINAR

Why IPS? 1)To prepare for the development you are about to experience. 2)AIESEC is more than just going on exchanges. 3)To set expectations straight in terms of legal and contractual. 4)To define your rights and what AIESEC has promised to you. 5)To answer your questions.

Who are you? -Introduce yourself -Why are you going on exchange?

What Is AIESEC?

AIESEC is an international, youth-led organization that aims to develop leadership potential in young people through experiential learning and cross-cultural exchange. Established in 1948, AIESEC provides opportunities for young individuals to participate in global volunteer projects and internships, fostering personal and professional growth while promoting cultural understanding and social impact.

What are your values as a person?

How would you define a leader? Do you possess these skills and characteristics? Why or why not?

What is the incoming Preparation Seminar? The incoming Preparation Seminar (IPS) Is all about getting the Exchange participants ready for their time here in Abeokuta. It is a chance to learn what to expect, connect with others, gain clarity on what the role as a Exchange participant entails and build the skills for which you have signed up for the program.

Goals of the Seminar. 1.Cultural Understanding : - Get to know local customs and traditions. - Learn how to respect and appreciate cultural differences. 2. Program Insight : - Understand what the National Volunteer program is all about and what is expected of you. 3. Skill Building : - Learn effective teaching methods for rural settings. - Improve your communication and teamwork skills.

4 )Health and safety : -Understand health guidelines and safety. -Know where to get help in Case of emergencies. 5)Connecting with Others: -Meet fellow participants and local mentors. -Build a support network for your volunteer journey.

What do you want to see as result at the end of your experience? Think about what you want to see in yourself at the end of the program? Do you want to be better at communicating with people? Public speaking? You want to be better at teaching in rural communities? Patience with kids? Impact and empathy? What do you want to see?

Now set a goal.  set a goal on what you want to achieve at the end of your experience and how you hope to achieve it.

Take ownership for your goals. Hold yourself accountable . Remember what you just thought about and actively work towards achieving it on your exchange program. Then at the end, check to see if you have been able to achieve your goal.

How can AIESEC support you on this journey? We will have a team working on your exchange. Tell us how you think we can help. Be sure to let us know if anything has gone wrong or if things are not going well and we will make sure to attend to your concerns.
