RULES OF JAVELIN
THROW
The following rules are adhered to for a legal throw:
• Upon calling the athlete's name, they have
sixty seconds to commence the
throwing motion.
• The athlete may NOT wear gloves
• The throw is made with a pulling action of the arm.
• During the throw the athlete may not touch the scratch line or the
ground
outside the lines or the lines which mark the runway
• The athlete must exit behind the scratch line ONLY AFTER his throw
has landed
• The javelin must land inside the lines which mark the legal sector
(28.96°) of the
throwing area.

RULES OF THE COMPETITION
Three rounds per competitor (random order).
Faults (Disqualifications)
An athlete commits a fault if they:
Delay beyond 60 seconds after their name is
called.
Touch any part of the runway line, scratch
line, or sector line during the throw.
Throw outside the sector or land on the
sector line.
Leave the runway before the javelin lands.
Fail to exit properly (must leave behind the
scratch line).
Three rounds per competitor (random
order).
Top 8 throwers get three more attempts
(ranked by best throws).
Best legal throw counts for final ranking.
Tie-breaker: Second-best throw
determines winner if needed.
Field Referee resolves any disputes.
