There are various types of research based on their purpose, methodology and area of application. Some of them are 1. Basic Research : Basic research is also called as pure or fundamental research. Its main aim is to increase the present knowledge of a specific subject. It could either be in physical form such as sales or in abstract form like human behavior. Generally, people carryout basic research out of curiosity. For example, A research carried out to find the, Relationship between intelligence and creativity Influence of advertisement on different media like television, newspaper and magazine.

2. Applied Research : Itis a type of research related to a particular product, service or system. For example, A company may be interested in evaluating the impact of its advertising campaign. The main objective of applied research is to solve any type of problem in a scientific and systematic manner. A research is said to be an applied research" based on its applicability in a particular field such as, social and behavioural science, human resource development etc. 3. Empirical Research: Empirical research is a research which does not consider any theory or model, rather it is based on evidence, experiment or observation. It uses only empirical data-based evidence to solve the problem. For example, A research on heavenly bodies. i.e., planets, stars ete , is based on data collected about their movement .

4. Social or Behavioural Research : The research which is conducted by behavioral and social researchers in political science, education, sociology etc., is referred to as social or behavioral research. The researchers in social research apply many methods for exploring, understanding and describing social life. Whereas, behavioural researchers try to study the reasoning for behavioural issues with respect to selection, preference etc. 5. Historical Research : Historical research involves the systematic evaluation of past events and interpretation to recapture the ideas, personalities, nuances etc which influenced these event. This research is carried out to communicate and understand the past events. In banners economics, the academicians such as economists discuss on past events and relate it to the present events to provide the answers to the present situations such as, (a) What is the present issue problem? (b) What happened earlier in the similar situation?

6 . Business Research: It is a type of research which involves the issues related to business firms. It is a process of planning. analyzing and acquiring information of business to take proper actions as to improve the performance of business. The main aim of business research is to get useful information for decision making in cost effective way. For example, if a company is planning to launch a new model of laptop, it will first conduct a business research to know the market demand After that, it decides where and when to position its product. 7. Exploratory research : is concerned with discovering the general nature of the problem and the variables that are related to it. For example if a researcher wants to know the reason behind the increase in the absence of animals in the city, he in may find some influencing factors like increase in reach population. However, he/she may not be able to reach a conclusion.

8. Descriptive Research : Descriptive studies are undertaken in many circumstances. When the researcher i1s interested knowing the characteristics of certain groups such a age, sex, educational level, Occupation or income.. descriptive study may be necessary. 9. Causal design investigates: the cause and effect relationship between two or more variables. It focuses on the main reason/cause of a symptom. For example. a researcher may want to know the cause/reason behind the decline in sale for a particular product,
