Rialacha an Aimsir Chaite If the verb begins with a consonant the first letter is followed by a ‘h’ ( Séimhiú ) e.g. D h ún mé . If the verb begins with a vowel put a d ’ in front of the verb. E.g. D’ ól mé If the verb begins with ‘f’ the verb gets both a séimhiú ‘h’ and a d’ e.g. D’ f h ág mé .

An Chéad Réimniú Rules Verbs of one beat or sound . E.g. Tóg , cuir , dún , ól , fág , suigh , léigh . Verbs which take a síneadh fada in the last beat . Eg . Ús á id , gea r á n , coim e á d .

Examples of verbs in the Chéad Réimniú Dún (to Close) Broad ending verb ( Leathan ) D h ún mé I closed D h ún tú You closed D h ún sé / sí He/she closed D h ú n amar We closed D h ún sibh / siad You (pl.)/they closed Níor d h ún mé . I didn’t close Ar d h ún tú ? Did you close?

The ‘we’ or ‘ sinn ’ form of the verb Look again at the ‘ sinn ’ form of the verb. C h eann aíomar In order to create the ‘ sinn ’ form we follow these steps: 1. the (a) igh is dropped Cheann aigh 2. the root is now C h eann 3. look to last vowel if broad ( leathan ) add the ending – aíomar 4. if the ending is slender ( caol ) add the ending - íomar Result: C h eann aíomar
