Functions of anterior cruciate ligament It binds the bone together It is stretched during extension and therfore prevents hyper-extension. It prevents forward displacement of femoral condyles .
Functions of posterior cruciate ligament It binds the bone of the joint It is streched during flexion and prevents backward displacement of tibial condyles . Both cruciate ligaments prevents side to side displacement of femur and tibia.
Coronary ligament
Transverse ligament
Mensico -femoral ligament
Medial & Lateral Mensicus
Functions of mensicus They increase the concavity of tibial condyles for better adaptation with femoral condyles They maintain a potential joint space for flushing of synovial fluid to provide nutrition to articular cartilage. It acts as a shock absorber to protect articular cartilage during weight transmission. It also helps in gliding and angular movements.
Contd … Pheripheral attached part of menisci is vascular and gets nutrition from the capsular arteries. Inner part of menisci is avascular and gets its nutrition from synovial fluid.
