Mr. Devendra Prasad Yadav Dr. Sudarshan Prasad Regmi Prospectus and Status of Forage and Feed Marketing in Nepal

Introduction Deficiency in a balanced and nutritive feed supply has been blamed for the sub-optimum performances in improved livestock breeds in Nepal. About 35 per cent of productivity is estimated to have been constrained by the poor feeding system. increased the demand for livestock products which has led to increasing commercialization of livestock is due to Increased urbanization, Better mobility, increased flow of tourists have especially in the Terai . ( Devkota et al ., 1991), ( Rajbhandary and Shah, 1981).

Objectives of the study Major Objectives: To analyze present animal feeds’ situation for the sampled districts and their constraints To formulate recommendations for infrastructure development for feed storage, transportation and marketing. To evaluate potentials and constraints of existing laws, policy and programs in production, storage, transportation and marketing of feeds and Make Strategic Plan for Animal F eed M arketing .

Methodology Location of the study Three districts viz. Morang, Dhanusa , and Chitawan . Sampling Method and sample size The purposive sampling method was used with a randomized sample size of about 35-37 households. The household survey was conducted to the commercial and registered livestock farms of the districts.

Approaches Review of literature: Published papers Focus Group Discussion (FGD): The FGD will be conducted with the stakeholders related to manufacturers, production, marketing and utilization of Animal feed resources Key Informant Information (KII): the officials of DLS, DLSO, technical directorates, feed industries and progressive farmers. Primary HH survey: 3 representative districts (Morang, Dhanusa and Chitawan ) related to commercial farms
