Un viaje a Argentina Marzo, 2024

Un viaje a Argentina Marzo, 2024

We spent most of our time in Buenos Aires, where a visit to Evita Perón’s tomb (in the Recoleta Cemetery) is de rigueur ‘Don’t cry for me’ Note the tourists reflected in the tomb’s marble

We spent most of our time in Buenos Aires, where a visit to Evita Perón’s tomb (in the Recoleta Cemetery) is de rigueur ‘Don’t cry for me’ Note the tourists reflected in the tomb’s marble

After a brilliant tango lesson we went to Marabú, a non-touristy dance club in Buenos Aires’s San Telmo district Mostly people just danced, but at one point these profesional dancers put on a show. I loved their outfits.

We admired the spectacular gomera (gum tree) in the Plaza San Martín in Buenos Aires. The poster warns about falling branches. It taught me the word añoso ‘ancient.’

La casa mínima : the narrowest house in Buenos Aires (San Telmo área) “[Such] small houses were believed to have been built for freed slaves, who, on receiving their freedom, were granted small pieces of land adjoining the homes of their former masters. This is the only remaining example in Buenos Aires.” -from the official website of BA tourism office

The stunning “Centro Naval” in Buenos Aires, where Susan & I enjoyed a final (and non-touristed) breakfast before leaving the country. (looking up the central staircase) (vintage & fully functional elevator)

Delis are different in Buenos Aires! This one was amazing.

Our main excursión was to the spectacular waterfalls of Iguazú

Iguazú is located where Argentina (near) meets Paraguay (left), and Brazil (right).

All my pictures of the falls feature rainbows

Enormous numbers of cows + large-scale Italian immigration = world-class gelato! – with an emphasis on dulce de leche Heladería Vía Toscana, in Tigre Heladería Cremolatti, in Puerto de Iguazú

The one souvenir I was determined to come home with: a traditional mate y bombilla set made from a genuine gourd. I bought the most beautiful set I saw during our trip.

Life in Tigre, a short train ride north of Buenos Aires, is all about the water. These kids are learning the ropes.

The highlight of our final excursion, a day trip to Colonia del Sacramento in Uruguay, was this sunset facing west (towards Buenos Aires) across the Río de la Plata.
