Introduction Design depends on the nature of building Function of building is ascertain initially and then the different components are planned. Units are then joined together to form the whole building The site depends on the number of people using the facility. Points to be considered for Planning Dr. Preeti Kulkarni, Department of Civil Engineering, VIIT , Pune-48 In hot and humid climate, classrooms should be constructed on two sides of a corridor and derive light from north. The classrooms should be planned in such a way that no other classroom should be distributed when other classes are in use. Principals room should be in such a way that classrooms are visible Principal room and office should be nearby The common room with area 2.5 to 3.0 sq.m per teacher should be provided. The layout of classroom should be L shape or rectangular pattern The sanitary block should be provided in each wing suc that they are easily accessible. Other important assembly as gynamsium , library, stackroom etc. should be provided.

A waiting room should be provided for the visitors in front of doctor’s room and one in the front of the operation theater for friends and family to wait. A common size of a bed used in hospitals is 0.9m x 2m The sill of window should be placed lower than 75cm, as height of bed is usually 0.6m.

O.75m length per person is provided for table and allowing seats along both the sides it should be at least 0.9m wide Height of tables is usually 0.75m to 0.85m from the floor The width of lobby space required for moving around the newspaper stand should be 0.9m and between two stands should be 1.5m Size of racks and number of sections required for the particular library should be considered based on type of Institute.
