Application of curves By Sahad E 2ab15cv009
Horizontal curves Simple curve These curves are used in changing the alignment and direction of road and railways. The main design criterion on the simple curve is provision of an adequate safe stopping sight distance.
Compound curve The compound curve is set out were availability of land is comparatively less. These curves are used in airports to connect runway and taxiway .
Reverse curve Reverse curves are useful when laying out such things as pipelines, flumes, and levees. The surveyors may also use them on low speed roads and railroads. They are sometimes used on canals, but only with extreme caution, since they make the canal difficult to navigate and contribute to erosion.
Vertical curves It is a curve that is used to make a smooth and safe transition between two grades on a roadway or highway. These curves are used in mountain or hilly areas where the road needs to climb heights.
