Z ooplankton are an important element of the aquatic food chain. These organisms serve as an intermediary species in the food chain, transferring energy from planktonic algae (primary producers) to the larger invertebrate predators and fish who in turn feed on them.

The aquatic food chain starts with the Sun. Energy from the sun is used by the phytoplankton. Phytoplankton get eaten by Zooplankton. The fish eat the zooplankton, and get eaten by larger fish. The seal eats the fish, and the Polar Bear eats the Seal.
