The Intersect - Community Center
2023 - ASCA Concrete Masonry Competition
The Community Commons, located on Wilmington Island, was
designed using concrete block as its primary material. With the
intent of highlighting qualities of concrete block, the form and
orientation was chosen considering the capabilities of the
material. Starting with a simple prism, the form of the building
was dismantled into multiple masses. Two intersecting
hallways organize the masses, becoming the axis, or main
artery of the building allowing for an easy and straight forward
circulation. Punched openings were created in the hallways
and large interior space to help bring light into the interior
during most times of the day. In these punched openings,
built-in seating was designed using concrete block and wood
creating many opportunities to sit and relax throughout the
Community Commons. In many parts of the building, concrete
block was turned on its side and used as a screen material to
help shade and daylight spaces. Finally, the building’s
placement on the site was chosen in order to preserve the
pre-existing trees, and with the intent of further incorporating
nature into the Community Commons, planters and garden
spaces were designed throughout the large exterior space.
Overall, the Community Commons was designed to bring
members of the Wilmington Island community together, while
also providing shelter during harsh weather, and showcasing
concrete block as a material.

Fire Station #4
2023
Fire Station #4 was designed
simultaneously to the Wilmington
Island Community Center. It was
designed using brick as its primary
material. Throughout the design
process, I focused on preserving as
much of the pre-existing site as
possible and chose to position the
fire station in the same spot the
current station is located. This
allowed me to keep the pre-existing
driveway and cell tower. The
apparatus bay required enough space
to hold 2 apparatuses and a pickup
truck. All storage rooms are located
on the first floor, as well as a public
restroom and an office for visitors.
Overall, Fire Station #4 was designed
with circulation in mind to allow
firefighters to leave efficiently and
quickly in order to respond to
emergencies.

Contort - Hotel
2022
Contort, located on the corner of Cone
St. and Walton St. in Atlanta GA, is
a spectorium and hotel. Referring
to Jacques Lacan’s works, Contort
provides opportunities for visitors
to explore Gaze and Glance. With a
focus on framing views and the body’s
interaction with architecture, various
sized apertures were created in two of
the facades. Some apertures provide
a wide and open view like a standard
window, while smaller ones invites the
visitor to approach them and “contort”
to the view.

Suspended City
2022
The Suspended City is a project based in
the distant future when coastal cities
across the world are expected to flood due
to rising sea levels, leaving them
uninhabitable. My intent with this design
was to create a structure that supports all
the basic needs of a small city, that also
responds and adapts to the changing
environment in order to reclaim flooded
cities. Throughout the design process, we
took inspiration from J. G. Ballard’s “The
Drowned World,” and Pink Floyd’s “The Dark
Side of the Moon.”

Drawings
2018
These are drawings I made during my
freshman year. Our class would take field
trips around the city of Savannah to learn
some of the city’s history, as well as take
measurements of historic buildings. We
would use the measurements to create
plans, sections, elevations, and
perspectives to scale. These are two of my
favorite drawings I made that year.
