IIn collaboration with my groupmates, we developed a
comprehensive urban design proposal for a 2.4-acre site in
Portland, OR, situated in the St. John district. Our team
focused on a mixed-use development that leveraged the
Commercial Mixed-Use 3 (CM3) and Residential Multi-
Dwelling 1 (RM1) zoning, transitioning from street-level
commercial spaces to residential units on upper floors to
enhance both functionality and visual appeal.
To address sustainability, we aligned our project with
Portland's climate policies and incorporated LEED
(Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) principles.
We utilized advanced tools like QGIS for site analysis,
SWMM for stormwater management, and 3ds Max for 3D
modeling and visualization. Our climate-responsive design
included solutions for stormwater management, vegetation
planning, and street design to ensure an eco-friendly and
resilient urban environment. The methodology we followed
is detailed in the diagram below.

A collaborative group project focused on Venaria Reale's historical
town. Aligned with the UN's 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development
Goals, particularly Goal 11, our mission was to integrate heritage
preservation and urban planning, emphasizing sustainability and
resilience.
Throughout the course, we honed competencies related to historical-
cultural and natural heritage management in urban areas,
particularly historical town centers, guided by the UNESCO historic
urban landscape approach.
Our group conducted fieldwork, engaging with local stakeholders to
apply our knowledge and skills to a real-life case study in the
Piedmont Region, focusing on problem-solving and envisioning future
scenarios that balanced heritage conservation and urban
development.
Our collective learning outcomes included understanding
conservation policies, recognizing heritage values, interpreting
regulations, and formulating management and governance
strategies. We developed a Historic Urban Landscape Assessment
and a Conservation and Management Plan as tangible results.
Through lectures, study visits, and practical exercises, we explored
heritage-based urban planning's transformative potential for
inclusive, resilient cities. This collaborative effort deepened my
understanding of urban heritage and equipped me with skills to
contribute to sustainable urban futures, emphasizing the importance
of preserving the past while shaping the future.

In a collaborative academic effort, my team and I
undertook a project focused on assessing and improving
the perviousness of Zone 16 in Torino's Madonna di
Campagna neighborhood. Using QGIS, we calculated
existing perviousness levels and proposed solutions to
combat urban runoff and enhance sustainability. Our
innovative solutions included creating green socialized
neighborhood parks, transforming parking lots into
permeable surfaces, implementing sustainable green
building practices such as roof gardens, designing
pedestrian-friendly walk streets, and introducing full-
depth permeable pavement shoulders. This project
exemplifies our dedication to fostering sustainable urban
environments through interdisciplinary teamwork and
creative urban planning.

UNIVERSITY PROJECT

Within this section of my portfolio, I present a selection of
academic projects completed during the "Energy
Challenges and Environmental Sustainability" course.
Collaborating with my husband, we embarked on an
intellectual journey to examine pressing energy issues and
devise sustainable solutions. These projects epitomize our
dedication to sustainability and our analytical acumen.
Below, I provide concise overviews of the three projects
that showcase our commitment to addressing environmental
concerns through rigorous analysis:
Our inaugural project involved an in-depth analysis of Corio
Municipality's capacity for photovoltaic electricity generation.
Leveraging the capabilities of QGIS, we calculated the electric
photovoltaic potential and performed an economic analysis that
considered Corio's electric consumption, investment costs, electric
production, and consumption differentials. The outcome revealed
that Corio could potentially produce between 18,000 to 36,000
MWh/year of electricity using three distinct photovoltaic panel
types, generating an annual revenue ranging from €1.1 to €1.9
million. Notably, our findings suggested a favorable 8-year recovery
time for monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic panels.

Our second endeavor revolved around
evaluating the potential of forestry biomass
for energy production within Corio
Municipality. We diligently calculated
accessible biomass areas, the thermal and
electrical energy production capacity, and
assessed heating and electrical energy
consumption. Additionally, we conducted an
economic analysis that factored in the
biomass power plant's cost and biomass
procurement expenses. The results were
compelling—Corio, unaffected by territorial
constraints, stood to gain immensely from
the establishment of a biomass power
plant. Projections indicated an annual
thermal energy output of approximately
12,000 MWh, translating to substantial
savings of up to €2.5 million per year, with
an impressively brief 6.6-year investment
recovery period.
Our final project revolved around optimizing the energy
efficiency of residential buildings, with a particular focus
on Micro Zone 38 in Torino. We meticulously calculated
energy consumption, identified retrofit measures to
enhance efficiency, and assessed the cost and payback
time for each intervention. Furthermore, we developed
comprehensive energy retrofit policies. Our analyses
encompassed energy performance indices, retrofit
options, and cost-effective measures. We scrutinized the
impact of various interventions, including window
substitutions, roof insulation, lower slab insulation,
vertical walls insulation, and overall retrofit measures,
laying the foundation for a more sustainable and energy-
efficient future for residential structures.

PLANS
In my residential complex designs, I created a variety of unit types, including flats and duplexes, with
integrated vertical voids that brought nature into the building through small gardens between floors.
Ground floors hosted amenities like gyms, kindergartens, and conference halls. I started by designing
individual units and then shaped each complex through rotations and mergers of these units,
incorporating voids and green bridges. The focus was on maximizing natural light and views, providing
unique balconies, and offering exclusive parking. My design approach enhanced the living experience
by seamlessly blending architecture with nature.

My design process for this project seamlessly marries Mediterranean
and contemporary aesthetics, thoughtfully curated to complement
the unique setting of the apartment situated within one of Kish
Island's modern towers in southern Iran. The choice of a design
palette primarily revolves around light, airy colors that create an
inviting ambiance. Furthermore, a conscious decision was made to
forego ornamental elements on the walls, a choice guided by the
region's elevated humidity levels. This approach underscores our
commitment to crafting a living space that not only embraces the
essence of the Mediterranean but also ensures the comfort and
well-being of its occupants in a contemporary, high-humidity
environment.

As a freelance interior designer, I took on the challenge of designing a minimalist kitchen and living room
tailored for a tropical climate. I aimed to create spaces that felt fresh and comfortable. To achieve this, I
chose bright colors for decoration and incorporated wide openings to ensure excellent air circulation.
In addition to the tropical design elements, I introduced a touch of Iranian architecture with dome-shaped
openings and Persian color accents. This blend of influences added a unique cultural identity to the
interiors.
This project showcases my ability to design functional and visually appealing living spaces that
harmoniously blend tropical aesthetics with Persian heritage, all while maintaining minimalist elegance.

Our endeavor began when we undertook the task of transforming a
construction project with no engineered plans or designs into a
functional and aesthetically pleasing living space. The challenge was
twofold: the structure was already erected, complete with an indoor
swimming pool and parking layout, limiting our options for structural
modifications. Additionally, the client's requests posed significant
constraints on our pursuit of uniqueness and creativity.
Despite these challenges, we dedicated ourselves to achieving the best
possible outcome. We conducted meticulous planning and introduced
alterations to create a functional layout suitable for a family of four,
optimizing both space and functionality.
The facades, a harmonious fusion of classic and modern styles, were
tailored to meet the client's specific preferences. This fusion not only met
their aesthetic desires but also brought a sense of timelessness to the
design.
In this portfolio, we present a visual representation of our design journey,
showcasing the transformation of this project from its initial constraints
to a harmonious blend of functionality, aesthetics, and the client's vision.
