FABRIC/ FABRIC DESIGN

Fabric is  cloth or other material produced by weaving together cotton, nylon, wool, silk, or other threads . Fabrics are used for making things such as clothes, curtains, and sheets.

THAILAND, CAMBODIA AND LAOS

THAI SILK

THAI SILK Is produced from the cocoons of Thai silk worms. Khorat is the center of the silk industry in Thailand. Thai silk is considered to be one of the finest arts in the world

There are two main types of Cambodian weaving: IKAT TECHNIQUE- To create patterns, weavers must tie and dye portions of weft yarn before weaving begins. Common motifs include lattice, stars and spots.

UNEVEN TWILL- it yields single or two fabrics, which are produced by weaving three threads so that the color of one thread dominates on one side of the fabric while the other two determines the colors on the reverse side.

Cambodian Textile Natural Dyes Red dye -comes from insect nests. Blue dye - indigo Yellow and green dye - prohut bark Black dye - ebony bark

Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore Batik most common fabric in both countries. Batik(Indonesian-Malay) Malay word “ titik ” means ‘point”, “dot” or “drop” “drop” action refers to the process of dyeing the fabric use of a resist technique: covering areas of cloth with dye-resistant substance (usually hot wax) to prevent them from absorbing colors. Malaysia States of Kelantan and Terengganu Considered the cradle where batik first flourished Two Main Types of Batik in Malaysia Hand painted - uses canting, small copper container with one or more different-sized pipes. Block printed - done by welding together strips of metal block. The metal block is then dipped into molten wax and pressed against the fabric in order to make pattern. Singapore Batik —featured in the uniform of flight attendants for official flag carrier airlines of Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Brunei Brunei’s traditional textile also called batik Have national flower simpur , sumboi-sumboi (pitcher plant) and Brunei’s traditional design of air muleh .
