The Pieta shows Christ in his mother’s lap, just after he is taken down from the cross. A remarkable sculpture piece where the flesh under Christ’s shoulder just above Mary’s right hand seems to be soft and pliable. A work of great beauty, capable of eliciting a deeply emotional response in the viewer. Pieta, Sculpture, Marble (1497-1500) by Michaelangelo

Michaelangelo placed a scene based on Genesis For almost four years, he worked on high scaffolding as he painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel The Creation of Adam (Fresco, Sistine Chapel, the Vatican, Rome)

Representative artists from the Renaissance Period 2. LEONARDO DA VINCI (1452-1519) Was born in 1452 in the small town of Vinci, near Florence, Italy He had little schooling and was largely self-taught. Decorates the wall at the monastery of the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The figure of Christ forms the calm center of the painting, while the disciples seated to his right and left respond to his announcement that “one of you shall betray me” The Last Supper (about 1495-1497) by Leonardo da Vinci

The fourth figure from the left end is Judas, who betrays Christ and is shown pulling away from him in the painting. This painting is good example of symmetrical balance, as the piece features Jesus in the center with his twelve disciples evenly distributed on his left and right. The Last Supper (about 1495-1497) by Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci’s world-famous portrait was the artist’s favorite painting. The painting’s mistiness and fading colors illustrate Leonardo’s technique of modifying the atmosphere through color. Mona Lisa (1503-15-06, Louvre, Paris)

Representative artists from the Renaissance Period Raphael (1483-1520) He is considered to be one of the greatest and most popular artist of all time.
