ASEAN Political – Security Community (APSC) Ensure that the peoples and Member States of ASEAN live in peace with one another and with the world at large. Promote political development in adherence to the principles of democracy, rule of law and good governance, respect for and promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms. 3

ASEAN Political – Security Community Strengthen the mutually beneficial relations between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners and friends . APSC subscribes to a comprehensive approach to security. 4

ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) A single market and production base A highly competitive economic region. A region of equitable economic development. A region fully integrated into the global economy. 5

ASEAN Socio –Cultural Community (ASCC) A committed , participative and socially-responsible­ community for the benefit of ASEAN peoples; An inclusive community that promotes high quality of life, equitable access to opportunities for all and promotes and protects human rights; 6

A sustainable community that promotes social development and environmental protection; A resilient community with enhanced capacity and capability to adapt and respond to social and economic vulnerabilities, disasters, climate change, and other new challenges; and A dynamic and harmonious community that is aware and proud of its identity, culture and heritage 7
