AIM
TO PERFORM THE ASSAY OF CHLOROQUINE
PHOSPHATE TABLET METHOD.
(FINISHED PRODUCTS)
•REQUIREMENTS:
•Measuring Cylinder, Burette, Beaker, pipette, volumetric flasks.
•0.1N perchloric Acid Solution, Distilled Water. Chloroquine Tablet

THEORY
•ChloroquinePhosphateisanAntimalarial,anti-amoebicdrug.
•Itischemically(RS)-4-(7chloro4-quinolyl-amino)pentyldiethylaminediphosphate.Having
molecularformulaCısH2CIN3,2H3PO,withmolecularweight515.87.
•ChloroquinePhosphateisWhiteoralmostwhite,crystallinepowderwithodourless.
•Itslowlygetsdiscoloredonexposuretolight.
•Itmayexistintwopolymorphicformsdifferingintheirbehaviour,oneofwhichmeltsatabout195°
andtheotheratabout218°,freelysolubleinwater,veryslightlySolubleinchloroform,inethanol
(95%),orinmethanol.
•ChloroquinePhosphatecontainsnotlessthan98.5percentandnotmorethan101.0percentof
C18H26CIN3,2H3PO4calculatedwithreferencetotheanhydroussubstance.

•PROCEDURE:
•Weighaccuratelyabout0.2ganddissolvein50mlofanhydrousglacialacetic
acidwiththeaidofheat(ifnecessary,heatunderarefluxcondenser)andcarry
outMethodAfornon-aqueoustitration.
•Determiningtheend-pointpotentiometrically.
•Performablankdeterminationandmakeanynecessarycorrection.

PRECAUTIONS
•1.Perchloricacidisusuallyavailableasa70to72%mixturewith
water.Itusuallyundergoesaspontaneousexplosivedecomposition
and,therefore,itisavailablealwaysintheformofasolution.
•2.Beforegoingtoperformassay,thevolumetricglasswareshouldbe
clean.
