Active Assistive Exercises are Used When: Muscles are too weak to bring about movement. Muscles are too weak to control the movement adequately. Performed when muscle strength is less than Grade 3 of MMT. (1---2 or 2 ---3)
Types of Assistance: By Physiotherapist. By patients sound limb (Self Assistance) , in case of unilateral paresis . Manual Mechanical Slings Pulleys Finger Ladder Wheels, etc.

Indications: Muscle weakness as result of disuse or after plaster cast. Muscle re-education . And Following tendon or m. transplantation. Inability to do Activities of Daily Living (ADL)· To increase ROM.
Contra-indications: Swelling ,fever and redness. (Joint Effusion) Immediatally followed myocardial infarction. If active assisted exercises induced severe pain during movement. Cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Unhealed or unprotected recent fracture or recent surgical site. ( Acute )
