Avishkar Research Festival 2017-Project Exhibition “ALGORITHM FOR PLANT PATHOLOGY: A SPECIAL REFERANCE TO COLOR MODELLING USING IMAGE” ET-TH-279 1 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279
Research Objective: Knowledge Automation for Indian Agriculture Identification of Plant diseases based on color symptoms Leaf, by making the use of Digital Image Processing. Problem Statement: “Given different sets of color images of the some entity which are expressing the same phenomenon but which can be analyzed by different color models and different preprocessing methods, how to choose the appropriate methods in order to obtain the more accurate and efficient results analysis for Plant Pathology?” 2 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279
AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279 3 About 75% people are living in rural areas and are still dependent on Agriculture. About 43% of India’s geographical area is used for agricultural activity Agriculture continues to play a major role in Indian Economy Provides about 65% of the livelihood Accounts for 27% of GDP Contributes 21% of Total Exports, and Supplies Raw materials to Industries Growth Rate in production - 5.7% Food grains production – 211.17 mt Indian Agriculture
Plant Pathology “Plant pathology is the study of the microorganisms and of the environmental factors that cause disease in plants; of the mechanisms by which these factors induce disease in plants; and of the methods of preventing or controlling disease and reducing the damage it causes” G.N. Agrios 4 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279
The main objectives of the Plant Pathology research are: To have research on the living entities that causes diseases in plants ii. To have research on the non-living entities and environmental conditions that causes disorders in plants iii. To have research on the mechanisms by which the disease causing agents produce diseases iv. To have research on the interactions between the disease causing agents and host plant in relation to overall environment v. To have research on the method of preventing or management the diseases and reducing the losses/damages caused by diseases. 5 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279

Disease Pyramid The interaction of components of plant disease can be expanded to include time and humans. Time is often considered as the fourth component of plant disease development. The human can affect the three components of the disease triangle and should be considered as a fifth component in disease development. 8 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279 Susceptible Host Disease No Disease No Disease No Disease No Disease No Disease No Disease Host Pathogen Environment

Automated fruit sorting is speedy , inexpensive, safe and accurate. This system will improve fruits’ quality , reduce labor intensity, accurate, rapid, economic, hygienic, consistent and objective assessment. Advantages 26 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279
The system gives the result based on the outer texture and color contents. As the classification is based on color and feature extraction so if the apple is replaced by any red colored fruit or vegetable (e.g. tomato, pomegranate, cherry etc.) then also it will be sorted as apple so it results into the misclassification. Disadvantages 27 AVISHKAR – 2017 Innovation Festival, ET-TH-279
