म ांस ध तु IS CORELATEDAS MUSCLES
What is muscle and its function?
The muscular system is composed of
specialized cells called muscle fibers.
Their predominant function is contractibility.
Muscles, attached to bones or internal organs
And blood vessels, are responsible for movement.
Nearly all movement in the body is
the result of muscle contraction .
PRESENCE OF MUSCLES
❑There are about 600 muscles in the human body.
The three main types of muscle include
skeletal, smooth and cardiac.
❑The brain, nerves and skeletal muscles work
together to cause movement –
this is collectively known as the neuromuscular system.

TYPES OF MUSCLES
SMOOTH MUSCLES
✓Smooth muscle fibers are located in walls of hollow
visceral organs (such as the liver,
pancreas, and intestines),
except the heart, appear spindle-shaped,
and are also under involuntary control .
✓Skeletal muscle fibers occur in muscles
which are attached to the skeleton.
TYPES OF MUSCLES
SKELETAL MUSCLES
➢Skeletal muscles comprise 30 to 40% of
your total body mass.
➢They're the muscles that connect to your bones
and allow you to perform a wide range
of movements and functions.
➢Skeletal muscles are voluntary, meaning
you control how and when they work.
TYPES OF MUSCLES
CARDIAC MUSCLE
❖Cardiac muscle (or myocardium) makes up
the thick middle layer of the heart.
❖It is one of three types of muscle in
the body, alongwith skeletal and smooth muscle
❖The primary function of cardiac muscle is to
pump blood into circulation by
generating sufficient force .
