About This Presentation

ppt on the branches of science

Slide Content

Science is a systematic study of the nature and manners of an object and the natural universe that is established around measurement, experiment, observation and formulation of laws .

Science studies everything in that can be perceived by the senses as well as the things that we can think of – from the biggest objects up to the smallest objects around us.

This makes Science difficult to discover and study. But through the branches, scientists can now focus on a specific area to study about, thus, making it possible to study and observe almost everything in the universe.

Branches of Science

Anatomy the branch of science concerned with the bodily structure of humans, animals, and other living organisms “Study of the structure of organisms”

Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena. “Study of heavenly bodies”

Acoustics Acoustics is a branch of physics that deals with the study of mechanical waves in gases, liquids, and solids including topics such as vibration, sound, ultrasound and infrasound. “Study of sounds”

Batrachology is the branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians including frogs and toads, salamanders, newts, and caecilians. It is a sub-discipline of herpetology “Study of frogs”

B iology  is the natural science that studies life and living organisms “Study of living organisms”

Botany is the scientific study of plants. It includes the study of their structure, how they grow, how they can be effectively classified. “Study of plants”

Chemistry is a branch of science that involves the study of the composition, structure and properties of matter. “Study of the composition and structure of matter”

Ecology Ecology is a branch of biology concerning interactions among organisms and their biophysical environment, which includes both biotic and abiotic components.  “Study of living organisms and its interactions with the environment”

Entomology Entomology is the study of insects and their relationship to humans, the environment, and other organisms.  “Study of insects”

Genetics  is a branch of biology concerned with the study of genes,  genetic  variation, and heredity in organisms. “Study of genes, heredity, and variation”

Geology  is an earth science concerned with the solid Earth, the rocks of which it is composed, and the processes by which they change over time. “Study of the earth’s structure”

Ichthyology is the branch of zoology devoted to the study of fish, including bony fish, cartilaginous fish, and jawless fish. “Study of fishes”

Medicine is the science and practice of establishing the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. “Study of health and treating diseases”

Meteorology is the scientific study of the atmosphere that focuses on weather processes and forecasting.  “Study of the atmosphere in relation to weather forecasting”

Mineralogy is a subject of geology specializing in the scientific study of the chemistry, crystal structure, and physical properties of minerals and mineralized artifacts .  “Study of Minerals”

Ornithology is a branch of zoology that concerns the study of birds. “Study of birds”

Optics is the branch of physics that studies the behaviour and properties of light. “Study of light and its properties”

Physics  is the natural science that studies matter, its motion and behavior through space and time, and the related entities of energy and force. “Study of matter and energy in space and time and its relation to one another”

Seismology is the scientific study of earthquakes and the propagation of elastic waves through the Earth or through other planet-like bodies . “Study of the Earth’s movement”

Taxonomy  is the science of naming, defining and classifying groups of biological organisms on the basis of shared characteristics . “Study of the classification of organisms”

Zoology also known as animal science, is the branch of biology devoted to the study of animal life. “Study of animals”

New Branches to learn

Aerodynamics  is the study of how gases interact with moving bodies. It is primarily concerned with the forces of drag and lift, which are caused by air passing over and around solid bodies . “Study of the motion of air that acts on bodies in motion”

Apiology Melittology is a branch of entomology concerning the scientific study of bees. It may also be called apicology . “Study of bees”

Brontology is the scientific study of thunder. All thunder results from lightning. A bolt of lightning rapidly heats the air around it, which causes the air to quickly expand and generate a sound wave we call thunder . “Study of thunder”

Carpology the branch of botany that studies the structure of fruits and seeds.

Carpology the branch of botany that studies the structure of fruits and seeds.  “Study of fruits and seeds”

Cetology is the branch of marine mammal science that studies the approximately eighty species of whales, dolphins, and porpoise in the scientific order Cetacea . “Study of whales, dolphins and porpoises”

Cynology  is the study of matters related to canines or domestic dogs . “Study of dogs”

Dendrology or xylology is the science and study of wooded plants, specifically, their taxonomic classifications.  “Study of wooded plants”

Dermatology i s the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. It is a speciality with both medical and surgical aspects. “Study of the skin”

Etiology is the study of causation or origination. It is the study of the causes, origins, or reasons behind the way that things are. “Study of the causation or origin of a disease”

Exobiology Also called astrobiology, it is an interdisciplinary scientific field concerned with the origins, early evolution, distribution, and future of life in the universe. “Study of life in the universe”

Gemmology is the science dealing with natural and artificial gemstone materials. It is considered a geoscience and a branch of mineralogy . “Study of gems”

Helminthology is the study of parasitic worms. The field studies the taxonomy of helminths and their effects on their hosts. “Study of helminths or parasitic worms”

Immunology is the study of the immune system and is a very important branch of the medical and biological sciences. The immune system protects us from infection through various lines of defence. “Study of the immune system”

Kinematics is a subfield of classical mechanics that describes the motion of points, bodies, and systems of bodies without considering the forces that cause them to move. “Study of the geometry of motion”

Lepidopterology Is a branch of entomology concerning the scientific study of moths and the three superfamilies of butterflies. “Study of moths and butterflies”

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, viruses, archaea , fungi and protozoa. “Study of small microscopic organisms”

Odontology the scientific study of the structure and diseases of teeth . “Study of teeth”

Psychology is the science of behavior and mind. Psychology includes the study of conscious and unconscious phenomena, as well as feeling and thought.  “Study of the mind”

Stomatology is the study of the structure, function and diseases of the oral cavity . “Study of the oral cavity”

Taxidermy is the preserving of an animal's body via mounting or stuffing, for the purpose of display or study. “Study of animal preserving or stuffing”
