1. ROLE OF BANKS IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.

2. Commercial banks play significant role in economic development of developing countries in I ndia. The commercial banks are the most important financial institutions and play an important role in the economic development of a country.

3. COMMITTEES ON REFORMS IN INDIAN BANKING NARASIMHAM COMMITTEE ON FINANCIAL SYSTEM IN 1991. NARASHIMHAN COMMITTEE ON THE BANKING SECTOR REFORMS IN 1998.

4. RECOMMENDATIONS OF (NARASIMHAN COMMITTEE-I) A high level committee was appointed under the chairmanship of Mr. M. Narasimhan (former governor of RBI) in 1991, by the government of I ndia, to examine the structure, O rganization, functions and procedures of the financial systems. The Committee submitted its report to parliament on December 17,1991.

5. RECOMMENDATIONS OF (NARASIMHAN COMMITTEE-II) ON BANKING SECTOR REFORMS The Government of India has issued a Notification on 26 th December 1997 for Constitution of Committee on Banking Sector Reforms. The Committee submitted its report to the Finance Minister on April 23, 1998. The main objective of the Banking Sector Reforms Committee was to establish strong, efficient, and profitable banking system of the global standard.
