Benefits from Biodiversity Submitted by: Reine Marie L. Arrojado Teacher: Rachelle C. Ortaleza

The benefits from biodiversity is as important as the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat. We cannot exist without biodiversity.

Clean Water Different species of algae that grow in streams clean water by removing pollutants.

Food Biodiversity provides food such as fruits and vegetables from plants, meat such as pork and beef from animals, and seafood from the oceans.

Medicine About 50% of the medicine available today is sourced from natural products.

Shelter Materials used for construction of shelter, such as wood and bamboo, are also provided by biodiversity.

Livelihood Biodiversity provides livelihood, such as fishing , to many people.

Tourism Tourists travel all over the world to enjoy the beauty and adventure provided by biodiversity.

Beauty, Inspiration The beauty found in biodiversity serve as an inspiration to writers, artists, and ordinary people.

Wildlife The wildlife nurtured by biodiversity, such as lions, deer, and elephants, is a wealth that will be a joy for generations to come.

Clean Air, Flood and Soil Erosion Control Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. They soak up rain water preventing flood and soil erosion.

Crop Pollination and Soil Fertility Insects such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds perform crop pollination. Microbes and animals supply the soil with nutrients to make it fertile.

Education Scientists use the natural environments to conduct research that benefit society. Students also learn better when observing biodiversity outside the classroom.

Those are the major benefits from biodiversity.
